i've never played the games so i think it's finally a chance for me to give them a go!
really excitedi only got to play a little bit of MGS1 when i was younger on a friends console. i've got it on my PSP but never really got round to playing it. enjoyed Peace Walker too!
But my big question, does anyone know the actual best way to play them? i mean, aren't some games prequels and so on? Whats the way to play them in order? I may have to purchase a PS3 if i want to play the rest i guess!
Ok, I say this every time this comes up... lol... ALWAYS play games, read books, watch movies etc in the order they came out, rather than their necessary chronological order... You will miss things in the narrative if you do otherwise... I point to the Tom Clancy Jack Ryan series of books, many of which are prequels to earlier work.. not to mention it's harder going back to inferior gameplay than it is going forward to superior gameplay..
You don't need to play MGS1 and 2 to play 3, as it stands quite fine by itself.... but likewise don't go playing 3 first thinking that it will make the others make more sense by being a prequel... quite the opposite... You are more likely to get something out of 3, by playing 1 then 2, then you are 1 and 2 by playing 3 first...
2 really would benefit from a run through 1 though, if you can... Without giving spoilers. 2 is 1 for the PS2 in a lot of ways..... 3 however really shakes the formula.. in setting, in characters, and in gameplay, while still very much being a Metal Gear Solid game.
Don't feel you have to play the dedicated PSP games to gain something... they are extra bits of development, but not crucial to any of it... much like the God of War games... You will not miss anything by playing GOW 1,2,3 and skipping CoO and GoS....
Likewise, don't bother with the Metal Gear games... I've never even seen them, but games in that era were never known for any form of story.... Solid Snake = good guy, Big Boss - bad guy is all you need to know. It's not like he had a great vision for MGS when those games were made... There are bound to be retcons and contradictions galore anyway... Like how George Lucas at the last minute decided to switch Princess Leia from a love interest to a sister, and Darth Vader from Anakin's murderer to actually being him...

I got it this morning, and it's great! The only thing that could have been done better is the anti-aliasing in MGS 3, it is a bit annoying to watch.

Got the game on saturaday on a card and im loving it, they look fantastic and most of the vita functions are really well implemented into gameplay, also cant wait to give the original metal gear and metal gear 2 games a go.

Cheers for the info! I've just redownloaded MGS1 to play on my PSP (yes, i'm one of the people who still kept it!) I'll give that a run though.
Started trying out MGS2 as well, actually find it quite a bit harder than 3, might be because there is more stealth involved?
So in order of the games, are there any books as well that i should read that tie into the games?

I always found 3 harder than 2 and 1 on the easier settings due to there being no radar.... Guess I'll find out again in a couple of days when it gets released on my store...

Downloading now from the NZ PSN store... and $20 cheaper than on card from a game store... ![]()
