Am I missing out not having a PS3?

Hi All.

I am a mostly xbox gamer, I dont own a PS3 but was drawn to buy a Vita on launch partially because of its powerful potential and partially as an impulse buy,.

I am just wondering as I dont own a PS3 am I missing out on anything or is there any functionality I am not getting?

thanks in advance

You're missing out on some stuff, none of it massively important...

A handful of games are buy-once-get-both-PS3-and-Vita-versions.

The Vita can connect to the PS3 for remote play - where the Vita acts as a screen for the PS3 (a handful of PS3 games work, plus any PSOne game); this can be useful if you don't have a dedicated screen for your PS3, especially when combined with PlayTV which is a TV tuner for the PS3. And it can, in theory, work across the internet, though I've never tried that.

You can download stuff on to the PS3 and copy it to the Vita and you can back up your Vita to the PS3...

Some future possibilities... LittleBigPlanet 2 on the PS3 is due for a DLC pack that will incorporate the Vita's controls and screen to add variety to the types of level that are possible.

And who knows what else in future...?

Re: Am I missing out not having a PS3?

In terms of Vita I would say not much. In terms of PS3 games then yes loads. Ive only had a PS3 since October as like you I am xbox  since day 1 with Halo. But seriously PS3 has some of the best games ever on that mahcine. Uncharted, Metal Gear, Resistance 3 LGB 2 are the only games ive played so far and they are worth it!

You seem to be forgetting all the already released and upcoming PS3 only games. There are lots of quality exclusives on the PS3 worth playing.

Well yeah, but I assumed that the OP was talking about stuff the PS3 can do with the Vita. :smileyhappy:

It didn't seem that way to me. The fact that he mentioned already owning the Xbox would lead one to believe whether it's worthwhile getting the PS3 even though he has a Vita. Either way a PS3 is definitely worth owning as well as an Xbox and Vita if one can afford it.

I disagree, they asked if there was any functionality they were not getting - which was clearly about what the PS3 offers fuctionality wise to the Vita, which is next to nothing really.  Had they been looking for a general "what am I missing not having a PS3", I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be asking in the Vita forum.

Personally, the ONLY thing I use the Vita/PS3 cross functionality for is backing up my Vita.  I could just as easily use my laptop for that, I just use the PS3 as it had more free space at the time and its more convenient.

However while on the subject about what PS3 might offer over Xbox, that is mostly down to PSN+ or the fact Netflix works a lot better on PS3 than Xbox.

I wasn't going to get Little Big Planet 2 due to having the first game and planning to get the Vita version.  However the instant it showed up on PSN+ I signed up for 3 months at £11.99 to rent LBP2, Burnout Paradise (already had this on my account from the free PSN+ welcome back offer), and several other games for 3 months is a serious bargain.  Even better if you commit for 12 months.

Its really quite clever how PSN+ works.

The longer you remain a member, the more games you get for free.  If your membership ends, the games expire, but they remain on your account and can be reactived if you upgrade again.

However any new games added to PSN+ have a limited time where you can add them to your account, thus encouraging you to remain a member so you do not miss out.  A very clever incentive to keep you subscribed and something Microsoft really should be doing as Xbox Live Gold today just seems to be charging for things which are free on PS3, some of which (Netflix) might not look as fancy on PS3 but actually functionally work better.

Netflix works better on XB IMO

But I agree with what you say other wise.  PSvita and PS3 conectivity at the moment is poor

So are you missing out on not having a ps3 for the Vita. No!

No if it was what I am I missing out on not having a Ps3 I would put a nice list of excluisve games down :smileyvery-happy: and PS+

Sony are stabbing their loyal family customers in the back - We have 3 PS3s and 3 PSPs all on the same IP address and all registered with Sony. Why can't we use them at the same time anymore?

Re: Am I missing out not having a PS3?

Regardless of what the original question was its still worth getting a PS3. That said there is a fair amount of connectivity between the two and I think that will only increase so even in that respect it's worth getting a PS3.

3d blu-ray player costs around 70-120 for a half good one

ps3 between 150-200 inc; 3d blu ray, games console and the ability to connect to the vita.

cant go wrong!!!!

even more so when the games come out that are able to be played against ps3/vita owners
