PS Vita: General Discussion

I have just found that my son has purchased a game through the vita that we already have a hard copy of. Some smartass at Sony has set the system to allow purchases without having to input the account password as the default setting!!!!!!!!! I mean how stupid is that when most parents are likely to buy their children a vita then link it to the main playstation account. There is no mention of it and no security setting during the setup stage when you first switch the system. 20 quid down the pan and I bet there's no way to get the money refunded into my ps wallet either!!!!!!! Not only that but as there were insufficient funds in my ps wallet the system allowed another five pounds to be drawn from my credit card again without asking any security questions or anything. Bad crack on sony's part for allowing default settings to be security free. Does anyone know if I can get a refund??????????

it is up to the parent to set up the account and make sure it is all protected so this can not happen. it only takes a few minutes.

If you have a card on the account it is your responsabillty to set up password access. Common sence realy.

its your own fault for not restricting the account with security passwords thats been there all the time

and no u wont get a refund as there is nothing wrong with the purchase other than your child being given free reign of purchasing from your account and bank

You are not entitled to any refund I'm afraid.

The account is set up by default to need a password in order to make purchases. If your child knows the password, or had access to the Account Management page via the website, then they'll have been able to disable the password requirement and purchase without it.

Your child should not be using your account anyway. They should have a Sub-Account which provides the legal restrictions for children online, and allows you to set the restrictions upon their account for whether or not they can load the account, make purchases etc.

Wow nice quality responses there, every other piece of tech I have insists on passwords as the default setting so it's just surprising that a company with the huge clout of Sony dont think its necessary to have password protection as the default setting which you can change to a less secure setting if you wish! Considering Sony have the track record of losing the majority of our contact details and passwords I for one would have thought they would have went more cautious with the security settings. But you guys are obviously happy that someone would be able to pick up your vita and stick loads of games on it at your expense because of sony's lax default security settings!

Sorry mate but the account on the vita is not set up by default to require a password. Nice comment though

we know its not set as default but as a parent you should be checking everything is in place before allowing your child to start using it since its linked to your bank account i know i would

So what if Sony's default settings are different from everyone else's? End of the day it was ultimately YOU who should take all necessary precautions to protect your account.

Your opening post is a sad reflection on modern everyday life, whereby the consumer blames the big company for something which was their own stupid fault. Another example of this is a pedestrian or cyclist with earphones on who strays into the path of a moving car and then blames the driver when they are hit
