Anyone here waiting for price to drop

I love VITA and it's the first hanheld that I will own in near future. Just nott now.

I am a student near graduation (without a job at the moment) and I think like 3DS price of Vita will drop soon enough. Memory card are also overpriced.

As much as I love PS VITA I think I will wait a few months for price to drop.

It won't drop until Christmas time really. I can't afford it either, but welcome to the world of an impulsive spender lol.

Re: Anyone here waiting for price to drop

The psvita price drop won't happen untill next year. MIGHT but just MIGHT get a price drop right before christmas. Memory Cards on the other hand is something I think will get a price cut quicker.

Re: Anyone here waiting for price to drop

Here's some figures that would suggest they can budge a little bit on the Vita.

It costs retailers £217.97 for the 3G version. £179.05 for the Wi-Fi version.

That gives them a bit of movement on price but to be honest your not going to get any cheaper than that.

Well, until it costs Sony less to source and manurfature the device. Or they decide they want less profit from it. :smileytongue:

I've also got the amount it costs Sony to make them, if anyone wants it. :smileyhappy:

In that case I would just have to get it before summer then.

Re: Anyone here waiting for price to drop

The price isn't going to drop before Christmas at the earliest. Just because the 3DS price dropped so quickly doesn't mean anything and is no indication. Sony will ride out the slow start and see how well the Vita sells over the next year or so before making any decisions on pricing.

Curious as to where you get those figures from...

Once you add VAT (which the retailers don't get to keep, of course), it suggests that the devices are being sold pretty much at cost.

WI-FI – £179.05 + VAT = £214.86

3G –— £217.97 + VAT = £261.56

It also suggests that the UK retailers are paying 13-15% more than US customers are paying, before tax.

Surely not...?

I nabbed it from this article.

It says this:

'(UPDATE: Our retail source has since come back to us with Sony's official trade price - the standard model costs vendors £179.05, while the 3G model is £217.97. We've amended the figures below to reflect that.)'

That's with VAT already added, so not a massive increase from America, I do think they tend to pay a bit more. Import cost? Or something.

Re: Anyone here waiting for price to drop

No, that's without VAT added. Otherwise the retailers would be making more like 25-30% on the hardware.

Still, it's not overly surprising. They sell the hardware with a low margin in the hope of making a killing in the used-game sales market later. :smileyindifferent:

Re: Anyone here waiting for price to drop

I was waiting for a price drop but I couldn't resist Amazon's offer of a free 8GB memory card and a game from a small selection for £15, sadly no Uncharted so I picked Rayman Origins. Could it be possible there will be a retailer driven price cut if sales are slow? I remember GAME reducing the 3DS to around £170 with a couple of selected games before the official Nintendo price cut. If it does drop I don't think it will be much below £200 for the wifi which made the Amazon offer so tempting.
