BioShock for PS Vita on back burner

BioShock for PS Vita on back burner

"Irrational Games lead Ken Levine says company directing its main focus on BioShock Infinite before moving to game for Sony's new portable.

The PlayStation Vita version of BioShock is playing second fiddle to BioShock Infinite, Irrational Games boss Ken Levine told Wired in an interview published today.

Levine explained that the studio's focus is presently centered on BioShock Infinite, which is expected to ship for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on October 16.

"These games really are all-consuming endeavors," he said. "You do want to keep the ball rolling but it is tough to give it your full attention before you finish what you have. But we're getting there with Infinite. So yeah, we're not as focused on the Vita game as we will be."

BioShock for the PS Vita was announced at the 2011 Electronic Entertainment Expo during Sony's media briefing. Details were thin at the show, but last October, Levine offered an update on the game, saying it was in the "paper design stage."

The developer said he wants BioShock for the PS Vita to be "unique" and "an experiment that's a little different." He also explained that the studio is considering outsourcing the PS Vita version to another developer, but said he is wary about handing control of its IP off to someone else."

The fact that their focus is completely on Bioshock Infinite and they won't be starting serious work on the Vita version until after that is released shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

Plus the PS3 version of Infinite has a full dedicated team building it from the ground up with full Move support.

I know i would rather see two great games in due time than two half arsed ports rush released.

The previous Bioshock games were great even with them being x platform ports and i have high hopes for Bioshock Infinite and Bioshock Vita.

Couldn't agree more. I'd rather wait till Xmas 2013 for an amazing Bioshock Vita than get my hands on a shoddy rushed product this crimbo coming. I hope they stick to keeping all development in house as apposed to handing control to a different studio.

I hope Naughty Dog are listening and do another Uncharted by themselves even though I am really enjoying Bend Studio's Uncharted outing. Can't help feel it would have been just that bit better if Naughty Dog had done the whole thing.

I'm all for waiting that bit longer for games knowing they haven't been rushed out because someone is worried about their bottom line...

Disappointed? That when Infinite is done their will be more people working on it to  make it even better?

No suprise

Good here the Ps3 version is being worked on instead of a port but as for MOVE support not to botherd TBH.

Vita a failure. No way.

Granted it not sold millions but what do you expect in a recession and people waiting for it to have more for them.

But it is doing ok.

What has Zipper dropped?

Bioshock is still in the works but the team are working to get infinite out on time, this is often done to keep development on track.

Why do you keep putting your sig picture in your main post?

Sony are stabbing their loyal family customers in the back - We have 3 PS3s and 3 PSPs all on the same IP address and all registered with Sony. Why can't we use them at the same time anymore?

Re: BioShock for PS Vita on back burner

I can't see other developers panicking about a game being put on hold.
I would see it as an assist as the console is a bit starved.
I think Resistance will do a lot to help IF it is as good as folk keep saying. If the online works then it could be an early leader for the platform. Something to push COD.

****praying for a BF Vita announcement****

Re: BioShock for PS Vita on back burner

2K has announced that BioShock Infinite will miss its October resale date and instead launch worldwide on February 26, 2013

" Irrational’s Ken Levine has this to say regarding the delay:

“When we announced the release date of BioShock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing. Since then, we’ve come to realize that some specific tweaks and improvements will make Infinite into something even more extraordinary.

“Therefore, to give our talented team the time they need, we’ve decided to move the game’s release to February 26, 2013. We wanted to let our loyal (and very patient!) fans know this as soon as possible.

“I won’t kid you: BioShock Infinite is a very big game, and we’re doing things that no one has ever done in a first-person shooter. We had a similar experience with the original BioShock, which was delayed several months [from] our original ship date drew near. Why? Because the Big Daddies weren’t the Big Daddies you’ve since come to know and love. Because Andrew Ryan’s golf club didn’t have exactly the right swing. Because Rapture needed one more coat of grimy Art Deco.

“The same principle now applies to BioShock Infinite.

“What does this mean for you? It means a bit more waiting, but more importantly, it means an even better BioShock Infinite. The great can be made greater, and we owe it to both ourselves and to you, our fans, to take this opportunity. Irrational Games is one of those rare developers lucky enough to ask the people who sign the checks: ‘Hey, can we have a few more of those checks?’

“We are also going to hold off on showing BioShock Infinite at the big events of the summer, like E3 and Gamescom. That way, the next time you see our game, it will be essentially the product we intend to put in the box. Preparing for these events takes time away from development, time we’re going to use instead to get the best version of Infinite into your hands in February.”

News of the delay caused shares in Take-Two to tumble 6% to $12.62. Shares in the firm on NASDAQ closed Tuesday, May 8 at $13.41.

Infinite was originally slated for release on October 16 in the US and October 19 in the UK for PC, Ps3, and Xbox 360."
