Finally Got NEAR working (Mods, might be worth sticking this)

[ Edited ]
After weeks of frustration I got my NEAR app to fix my location. You will need to register it with Skyhook but you have to make sure you register the right MAC address, this is not your router MAC but your wireless MAC. This can be a little confusing. The simple way to find your wireless MAC is turn on your Vita when it's connected to your router, go to settings, then NETWORK, then INTERNET CONNECTION STATUS. The wireless MAC is the code next to the BSSID which will have numbers and letters. It was only when I registered this code that it now works, originally I was registering my router. If your having trouble and then try this and it works post it here. Please note, it has taken nearly 7 days for it to show up after registering. The maps app should also work as well.

If you go to the skyhook website they have a wee app which when run gives you the right mac address

Strange. Because I registered with my router MAC. But I removed the : between the letters & numbers. 2 days later, Near works...

Yeah, I think originally many people had been putting their router MAC in like me. Of course the Vita was connecting via the wireless MAC address, hence why my first efforts did not work.

The reason it works for some people using the router MAC is simple, some routers only use a single MAC address for WiFi and ethernet.

Others have a different MAC address for each, in which case you obviously have to make sure you use the right one.

You are right though, the BSSID will always tell you the WiFi MAC address of the access point you are connected to and its THAT which Skyhook uses to create its location map.

I never put my mac address into the vita but what i did do was in the options under location data put a tick in all 3 boxes & my near works all the time.
