The hardware is there, many people choose a phone over the vita because they want a device that does everything. Just allow it to make and receive calls, or at least texts! it can already receive them.
If given a choice over an iphone at £500 or a vita at £260 if the vita was enable to use as a phone anyone with any brains would go with the vita

No thanks. The Vita is a portable games console first and foremost and should remain that way. There is absolutely no reason what so ever for it to be able to be used as a phone. I have my iPhone for that and that's the way it should be. Besides the Vita is far too big to be used as a phone.

Wrong !!! Bigger is not better when it comes to a phone. Even the Android phones are too big. Besides I rather carry a separate phone. Not to mention the Vita is too big to carry I'm a pocket and needs to be carried in a bag and I don't always have my bag with me. Using the Vita as a phone is an absolute terrible idea. Luckily for us it's not likely to ever happen.

Yes the Vita is foremost a gaming device but it can be so much more. Why make it so easy for the competition

No no no. Like the others said, Vita SHOULD remain as a gaming handheld and that's it. Yes, i like my smartphone to be decently powerful BUT as small as it can be and my Sony Xperia Mini fits the description perfectly
What i primaly use smartphone for is talking, text messaging, web surfing, taking pictures and videos, listening music and a little bit of Android gaming. But to me, Vita is JUST for gaming and it's like a portable PS3 to me since i don't have PS3.

Don't see any reason to say no thanks to another feature. If you don't want to use it then you don't have to.
I'm only getting me the Wifi version because I have a phone. But I would not say no thanks to another feature if I had the 3g one.

Why pay for something that you won't use? You may still want the 3G for other reason but as for phone you would be paying for somthing that you don't use.
That would put people off more IMO
Keep it as it is.
