PS Vita: General Discussion

Actually not. Sony has never advertised it as a replacement for anything. They have never gone out and said it will replace this or that. It is only us consumers that has made that assumption that is it the repleacement for the PSP.

And that assuption is probably correct.

But accordingly to Tintinb303s post the PS Vita is not a gaming device since Sony has not advertised it to compete with other handheld gaming devices.

That was just something I wanted to point out.

But if we stop trolling for a second and have a look at the system and the features and compare them.

The main focus of the device is gaming. The looks, the hardware and the software is the evidence of this.

But the device has other features also like social media and the ability to play music and videos. Even has a version with 3g aimed directly to be used for social applications and surfing the web. NOT FOR GAMING.

So in other words Sony wanted this device to be much more than just a gaming device. They wanted it to be used for social media and applications. If they didn't they would never have released a 3G version of the console. And this is the proof they wanted to compete against smartphones.

And the smartphones main feature is not gaming or social media. It is the ability to call. It is a phone! But just like the Vita it has applications and features that allows the user to surf the web just like the vita, and has full access to applications for social media just like the vita.

So this area is an area they are competing about. It has nothing to do with gaming but still Sony is promoting it.

A couple of days ago it was BIG news that the youtube application was out for vita. Today I got an email from Sony telling me I should "join the social revolution".  This mail is promoting social media and not gaming.

So yes Sony wants you to buy a Vita and use it to keep in touch with your friends over facebook, twitter, youtube or whatever you prefer. And all those things is things you can do on your phone and most of the times you do better on the phone. But it does not change the fact that Sony wants you to use it on the Vita and not on your phone.

 If you still don't think Sony tries to compete with Smartphones you must be delusional.

The 3G on the Vita makes it easyer for those who want to use it as a social media platform.

Just as I use my Kindle when I am out and about as that Is 3G and FREE

All new electrical media has social networking heck even my Tivo box has social media.

So no the Vita is not competing against smart phones just as the Vita is not competing with my Kindle or my TV or my blu-ray player who have all the social media the Vita has and more.

Sorry buy you point meakes no sence as soon even you microwave will conect to face book to tell you that your piza is done with a video of it cooking posted to youtube to boost that you can wacth on your TV

For the exact same reason you use kindle instead of your phone that does it better some users wants their vitato do the same.

I only reasion as I have alrady said I use my Kindle as the 3G is free and my phone does not have it. (new phone next month that will have it)

My Kindke dose it better than the Vita both wifi and 3G  but a 3G Phone dose it better than my kindle

WOO wait a cotton picking minute! When did I say that the Vita is not a gaming device??  I never even mentioned the 3DS in any of my posts!

Of course the Vita is a handheld gaming device and it is in competition with the 3DS. I apologise if my post has been misread or misunderstood or maybe I was not clear enough

This is more directed at Marcus8958 as he seems to be the one putting words in my mouth or coming to odd assuptions by reading my posts 

Anyway let me summarise:

Vita = Gaming (brilliant games) device with a few extra features (not so good at these)

Smartphone = Phone with lots of extra features (good at these) and not such great gaming capabilities

Just my opinion

I mean come on fella. I didn't think I would actually have to type "The Playstation Vita is in competition with the Nintendo 3DS". I would have thought that was obvious to most consumers...

For example: Each TV I see advertised does not say it is in competition with each and every other TV out there.

No I did not!!

I never thought that the Vita would do everything that a Smartphone or iOS device could do. I thought it would play (as near as possible) PS3 style games but in my hand.

It really does surprise me how many people did not do their research before purchasing their Vitas 

You, not "people" thought that the Vita would do everything that a smartphone can do. Now if you had done your research then you would have realised that it is a primary handheld gaming device and NOT a replacement for your smartphone!!

If I am wrong then please show me some evidence that Sony made any such claims to the Vita being an alternative to your smartphone. 

As far as I am aware Sony have always advertised the Vita as a gaming device with a few extra features but in no way can they be accused of trying to push the Vita as a viable alternative to your smartphone!

Do your research people!!

I'll keep on checking in to see if you can get some evidence that Sony made about the Vita being a viable replacement for your smartphone. Not second hand reporting or links to some fat geeks blog, but actual statements or advertising by Sony on the above issue. Good luck with that

I may not have mentioned the 3DS in the post but I would assume that most people would understand and realise that they are clammering for a piece of the same market. That being the hand held gaming market.
