PS Vita: General Discussion

I use my wifi Vita tethered to my Samsung Galaxy S2. When I update Near, it basically still shows me as being at home, even when I'm 300 miles away. Anybody know a way around this problem? is it a phone issue or a Vita issue? By a few rumours surrounding the Vita's future use of NEAR type capabilities I fear not having opted for the 3G model may become and issue in the future.

Not sure why but i don't have the problem when i tether to my htc wildfire.

I have the same problem, near works on my home WiFi connection but when I am tethered to my phone and out and about it won't work. Seems Skyhook which the Vita uses can only use fixed Wifi-APs for location. It's a real pity Sony could not come up with a better system. Even if they had just included GPS in the WiFi version.

Works fine when I tether mine to my iPhone.

It's probably due to the fact you have fixed WiFi-APs around your location which are registered with Skyhook. So some people will be ok like yourself, still doesn't make it a great system. I am guessing people in locations with high densities of active WiFi stations will be fine (as long as some of them are registered with Skyhook of course).
