I don't know if the Vita can be played whilst it's being charged by the portable charger as I've not tried it.

I'd like to see how you would plug it in when you have no access to a power outlet like on public transport or out and about. I only paid £33 for it and to me that is reasonable for something that gives 1.5 times the Vita's charge capability. Besides its an official product which makes it more expensive. There probably are third party generic products that are cheaper that do the same thing but I wouldn't trust them to charge my Vita.
