Recently bought a case with a magnetic flap about the size of a shirt button... you guys think this is safe for the console?

It's never a good idea to have magnets around an electronic device.  The manufacturer of your case is a fool.  However, I think your Vita should be fine, b/c it uses flash memory.

lol, flash memory is just as susceptible to magnets as anything else, but plenty of cases for plenty of electronic devices use magnets to hold them closed, they are usually too weak to have any effect on said electronic device
