A small update here.

Yesterday I took my vita on a car trip and played it fine with no freezing issues. Played hustle kings, everybodys golf, unit 13 and lumines combined for about 2 hours and didnt freeze once. Theres no way that I had access to wi-fi the entire trip (spent most of it on the motorway) so maybe there are other factors attributed to the freezing than what we think?

This was before I updated my firmware too, I did however get the update when I got home but cant confirm its effect on the freezes.

Yeah, I've done a bit more testing on the Underground but still haven't experienced a freeze yet.

There has to be another factor in play then, no doubt about it. Maybe the others were onto something with the digisenders interfering when there is no wi-fi around?  Either way its still a pain that we cant play our vitas in certain locations (I still cant play on my breaks at work) and obviously Sony need to at least comment on the issue so we know whats causing it, and then hopefully release a fix!

Have you tested it a work since updating the firmware?

Mine appears to be working fine since the fw 1.66 update. I've had my digisender on permanently, and the wifi hotspot is seen on my vita now without any issues. I would have thought Sony may have mentioned a wifi update in the firmware notes, as there certainly seems to have been some changes to the wifi implementation.

Played Virtua Tennis on the Tube today, with the new firmware. Still going strong - no freezes to report.

@DrProng the wifi notes are probably the adhoc from the psp emulator.
