Sending my Vita back to Sony - What are they like?

Unfortunately it has came to the point where my Vita is pretty much unusable and I can't open anything, not even the default system apps without getting a 'The File is corrupt' notice. I've tried rebuilding the database and restoring the system and it's made no difference at all.

So I'm about to call Sony, but I want to know a bit about how they deal with replacements.

Will they give me a new model or a refurbishment? Also, how long will it take for them to replace my Vita? Will I be able to stick my memory card into the next Vita I get and resume where I left off with my games?

Has anybody had their Vita replaced by Sony yet and if so, what are they like?

Dude just take it back to the shops. You must have a 12 month free warranty on it. They will give you a new one

'shouldn't it be 'mofu?'

For starters it's always better to deal with the retailer with regards to the warranty as long as they play ball and deal with you according to the sales of goods act, but sometimes they don't and you need to deal with the manufacturer to get some sence and progress.

As to the OP and how good are Sony with replacements I have to say from my experience they are really good. The only issue is that you will get a remanufractured console instead of a new replacement that the retailer would have to supply, that's the bad news.

The good news is that Sony will honour the rest of your existing 12 warranty with your replacement vita. The next bit of good news is that the replacement will look and work as new as Sony replace all the outer casings and screen lenses.

The next bit of good news is that Sony won't ask you to ship your console they will do a doorstep exchange where a courier (usually DPD) will bring a big pink box and will break the seal and open the box in front of you and he will then hand you your replacement vita. You then have to hand him your faulty one and he will pack it up and away it goes.
Its all free and is a pretty decent way of doing replacements as its quick and pretty simple with no waiting time for a repair to be carried out.

Sony were great when replacing my PS3. The door step exchange is great. Much better than the 2 week wait for a 360 refurb that Microsoft do.

Your best going through Amazon though, as the guy above me said, you'll get a brand new one, were Sony will give you a refurb. Which in my experience a refurb is just as good. But hard to beat that new feeling of a new system.

Amazon are brilliant with regards returns and faulty items, such a smooth process

I like to use their live chat service as the Indian chappies at the other end are nice and polite and sort you out with a returns label (sent to your registered email address so you can print it off) in no time at all

Re: Sending my Vita back to Sony - What are they like?

Thank you everyone! You all really made me feel at ease about this!

I have to say this to Amazon's customer service… WOW!
I clicked the contact us button and there was no live chat available at the time, so I had to settle with either an email or a phonecall. I thought I'd give the email a try, and if I heard nothing back for a few days, I would give them a call. I selected the defective item option from the drop-down box and then described the problem I was having with my Vita in the aditional info bit.

An hour later, I checked my emails… and here's the amazing part. They're sending me another Vita out free of charge, and it's listed as despatching soon on the website already. All I've got to do is send my original defective system out to them within 30 days.

I think it's fair to say that I'll be using Amazon again in the future. I'm blown away at how well they've handled this.

Thanks for the advice people! I would've ended up calling Sony if I didn't make this thread. :smileytongue:

Amazon are very good when they get it right like this - and thankfully they get it right more often than not.

Glad you have it sorted.

Result! Are you happy with the console other than it's lack of operation? It looks nice, yeah? In fact, i could have got a PSP that looks nice for half the price. Fook it, it's going back.........................
