Smudgy looking screen?

When I'm loading a game such as Uncharted and the screen is black all but the coin in the corner.

If I'm sitting in a dark/ no lights on room the black appears to have a weird smudgyness on the screen. Like dots and a circle. Only noticeable if your in a dark room.

Is this worth returning for? Unsure. It doesn't appear to affect gameplay.

It's common with OLED screens unfortunately.

Re: Smudgy looking screen?

Dont worry, thats a normal thing in OLED screens, every vita has it on the screen.

Thought it might be as its not dead pixels as I tested for that too.

Does yours do it too then?

Update: Ah, slow browser. Long as its happening to all then I guess have to live with it.

Re: Smudgy looking screen?

Yup, I noticed them on my Vita last night.

It looks like there's little splashes of black ink on the screen.

Re: Smudgy looking screen?

Yup, got it as well on uncharted when their is a total black screen, I thought it was part of the game, making it look dirty or watermarked on purpose. That appears to be the only place I ever see it.

It's not Sony's fault and there is nothing they can do to fix it. It's the nature of OLED screens and nothing can be done about it. If that's the way you feel then I suggest you don't buy any devices that use an OLED screen as you will be disappointed.

Re: Smudgy looking screen?

Just one of the reasons why I wish Sony didn't use an OLED screen on the PS Vita!

I know it's really very unlikely that this will happen, but I hope Sony release a model of PS Vita in the future with some kind of IPS LED screen. I would buy that at an instant...

Re: Smudgy looking screen?

My guess would be that a comparable IPS screen would be thicker (so would need a redesign to fit), be more expensive to manufacture and use more power.  Otherwise, there would be no good reason to use OLED.

I really don't understand why people are so upset.  The Vita was never designed to be played in total darkness and at least it doesn't have the utterly atroacious screen the PSP had.
