Re: So sick of this (vita game resolutions)

99% of PS3 games still are at 720 same as the 360, very few are at 1080.

Re: So sick of this (vita game resolutions)

Same with Mortal Kombat yes its ain't like the ps3 version but its great and so enjoyable on the Vita ... See Uncharted its about 90% of the handheld limits .

Re: So sick of this (vita game resolutions)

I finished gravity rush and didn't even notice it was upscaled. Some research found that its running at roughly 720x408 (as is uncharted) with a blur filter so you don't notice. Wipeout 2048 uses a dynamic resolution to keep the fps up. 2D games are going to be the way to go if you want native res i think, that rayman demo looked AWESOME.

That is part of the beauty of the Vitas high PPI count.  You can render at a lower resolution and do post-processing that makes things look better than if you had otherwise just tried to do everything native.

I do not have any problem with that, as long as its done well like Gravity Rush.

Of course Wipeout is even more clever, but that can only work with a fast moving racing game.

I always thought the Vita native resolution was a bit on a high side when trying to achieve PS3 quality graphic.  Especially considering that a few games like Call of Duty: Black Ops are actually natively rendered near enough PS Vita resolution on PS3.

Its why I LOL when people say that the PS4/Xbox 720 aren't going to look much better than the current generation, graphically.  Being able to render current-gen graphics natively at 1080p ALONE will look a huge difference, the fact they will also have more modern lighting and shaders also makes a huge difference.

Heck, I expect to see PS Vita games that have superior lighting to PS3 games for that reason alone, even if those games have less polygons and run in a lower resolution.  People underestimate just how much a of a huge impact good lighting alone can have on the realism of a game.

As awesome as the artstyle for gravity Daze is, the low res is still blurry.

I'm glad they kept the menus and such native so it's not like Everybody's golf but it's still a let down..

The issue here for me is the inconsistency of resolutions across games, for example I'll play Fifa and Hustle Kings for a couple of hours, and then play a game that upscales the resolution, and it is very apparent.. It looks like someone's smeared Vaseline over the screen, or my eyesight is suddenly screwed, just really undercontrasted and washed out.

Of course, gameplay trumps graphics every time. But it doesn't mean it's not annoying. it's a shame really. Also I agree I was also surprised native res is so huge on a handheld device.

Re: So sick of this (vita game resolutions)

Perhaps they thought they could get away with it as my Vita always looks like it has vaseline smeared on its screen anyway due to my annoyingly oily hands.

I won't deny that I would prefer it to be native all the time, just as I wish PS3/Xbox games were all 1080p and I will be very disappointed if the next-gen consoles don't do exactly that.

What I am saying though is that I would rather they do it this way than make other compromises such as dropping the frame rate, drawing distance, or the game just looking more ugly in other ways.

For example if they ever patched Gravity Rush (which I don't expect to happen)  I would much prefer they upped the drawing distance of the gems rather than bump up the resolution.

Also, the games we are complaining about are all early first generation titles.  I'm sure things will improve with time.
