sionysion wrote:But are the games actually that good on the Vita? I have the first PSP which came out and tbh, the games were crap in my opinion. None could keep me playing it for long.
For the PSP, it did depend on what you are into. A lot of people are into shooters - first person or third person - and here the lack of second analog thumb pad really hampered the device.
Personally, I found the PSP fabulous for playing Everybody's Golf and WipeOut and good old PSOne JRPGs.
The Vita should cater for all markets with its two joysticks and multiple other control mechanisms. I've played Resistance and Uncharted demos on the Vita and they really aren't that far removed from the PS3 games (though they're not my cup of tea). I can only suggest to try to get on a demo unit / Access event and try it out. That will give you a much better idea.
If I had to choose between PS3 and Vita though... yeah, I'd stick with the PS3, thanks. And hope to get a Vita when the prices come down. ![]()

If I could give an idea of what I would be looking for in a Portable Gaming Devise from Sony that would replace objects in my bag would be something simular to the 'Razer Project Fiona Concept PC Gaming Tablet'. Take a look at the picture below -

This Tablet would easily replace my notepad and even my folders in my bag. Basically everything what a Tablet does, but combined into a 'Gaming Tablet'. If Sony could develope something simular to this devise above (Something which could fit into my bag without those silly large Playstation Move Controllers on either side) it would fit into my life perfectly. (Cba to go into depth)
It would be great at home for gaming on the couch and in bed, you could also browse the internet with ease and watching videos in comfort with a 10" screen.
I think I will go out and try the Vita out personally now (Doing what was suggested by replys), I agree that getting a hands on experience would give me an idea if it really is worth getting for myself. Ty for the reply, suggestions and thoughts ![]()

btw been meaning to say it's "device" and hmm yes although that costs £1k apparently and that's based off the prototype :/ as far as I know very little dev support and I will genuinely be surprised if it doesn't flop; personally that vs a laptop- I'd buy a laptop... and those bulky side pieces look awful- it seems to me you are just trying to find reasons to have no use for vita; seems rather odd to me tbh
You got what I was trying to get at completely wrong. Im saying Sony should try and develop something similar to this, a 'gaming tablet'.
The one above is terrible yeah, totally agree but overall its a good concept idea (That being the fact their making a gaming tablet).
The tablet would cover a lot more areas than a PSP would and could possible achieve more if done well. You don't need a small PSP jammed in your bag for only one use and that is gaming and socialising on the web, nor does it need GPS and any other gadget which can easily be done on a mobile phone or a devise which is actually made to do the apps job.
I'm thinking along the lines that it won't just be used for gaming, it will be used in someone's everyday life and tasks (Such as Typing, reading, researching etc Just what a tablet does), not just the odd hour of the week where you have the time to spare to play games. In my opinion it would cover a much larger market and would be frequently used by their owners, not like a PSP does 'Used at odd free hours during a week'.
Benefits a gaming tablet could have -

I wouldn't say the games on the PSP were crap.... there were some very good spinoffs that played like PS2 titles... GTAIII and VC had their LCS and VCS, Splinter Cell 1,2,3,DA had it's Essentials, MGS3 had it's PW (and earlier less 'MGS2/3' style games, like PO and Acid)... Ratchet had a very PS2 style Ratchet game... The list goes on and on...
What I will say, is that for me personally, I struggled a bit with the controls, both the ergonomics on my hands (and suffering pains), and the lack of L2/R2 triggers made third person controls at times frustrating.. So I had a habit of buying these games earlier on in it's life, and never finishing them... Hopefully the superior controls on the PSV will help this time around.
What really did work well for me with the PSP was the likes of the Lego games and RPGs such as Crisis Core... for completely different reasons... Lego just seemed more suited to handheld play, and it's not like series ever pushed the PS3 hardware, so I've never felt you lose that much playing them on PSP and PS2.... and Crisis Core is a time killer, perfect for when TV is on in the background... (oh, if only I could have farmed toises in FFXIII via remote play)
Comparing phone games to me is pointless... If the PSV could only play budget PSN games like Pain, Flower, I'd tend to agree... but it is the full blown PS3 level games that will pull people in... most obviously at launch, Uncharted... Can you imagine the potential already for a handheld GTA game set somewhere in the GTAV universe?... gives me goosebumps already seeing as I played LCS and VCS for over 100 hours combined (funnily enough a rare example of me finishing action titles on the PSP)

Benefits a gaming tablet could have -
- Larger gaming screen
- Can be used for a larger variety jobs
- Could be used to interact with PS3s and Smart TVs easily (Like some tablets can atm)
- Can be easily kept in a bag instead of a fat notebook or notepad
- Can be used on the job, connect to a projector to show off a project to your team or take pictures out of work to put into a word document you can easily type up on the tablet.
- Could be used as an Ereader
- And much more
Hmmm I see your point but it's not really ony's style
might have even been a good idea but I think the price would have had to be ALOT higher than the vita's as the example you have is RRP about 1 grand which tbh people wouldn't have bought and maybe they don't want to drag apple into gaming? hmm
