Re: Think your VITA OLED screen is perfect? Think again...

I think I know what you mean as beeing your problem, it's like the screen has a curtain effect, that might happen on two situations on my opinion, one is that the screen is "pinched" to the PSVita case on those points, this happens alot on monitors and TVs, when there's to much pression on some points in the LCD panel and there's a lighting issue visible then, it's like when you press a PC monitor and the "liquid" moves, . Other thing might be related to the way the screen was bonded to the front glass of the console, it basicly is the same problem with the "black" screen, but this time visible on a white image to, since when they bond the OLED surface to the front glass surface there are imperfections, maybe that's that....

It's all theory mind U! :smileytongue:

I can see the digitiser grid if I tilt the Vita at certain angles in certain light, but all touchscreens have these, some more noticeable than others. The gird/lines I was on about is certain colours like light greys can show up random faint lines on different parts of the screen.

None of this overshadows the great colours and contrast ratio of the screen.

Most of these minor problems could of been avoided if they used a decent IPS lcd screen like on the iPhone.

What a bold statement, how do YOU know IPS would somehow be magically better than OLED?

My guess would be if they used IPS then the battery life would not last as long.  But more importantly I'm guessing they could not make it with an IPS screen for this price.

Also is it true that the black problem is only in total darkness?  Well guess what, it was never designed to be used in total darkness.  When I watch Youtube in bed on my phone and notice that the black is actually quite a light grey I do not complain, because I know I am not using it in the designed environment. With the lights on, my phone and Vita actually look quite similar despite using vastly different screen technology.

"Well guess what, it was never designed to be used in total darkness"

:smileyfrustrated: You were part of the Hardware-designers team?

Who won't play their PS Vitas at night on their beds? I'm not even bored no more with the situation since it's on every VITA as is probably a side effect of a mass production device that costs probably less to buy then it costs to be made, so I'm ok with the situation now, but saying " it was never designed to be used in total darkness" about an handheld console makes no sense to me, I'm pretty sure it crossed some peoples mind at Sony that people could eventually use it at night in their bedrooms with the lights out... I wouldn't play it on my bed with the lights on with my baby daughter and wife trying to sleep...

And besides that, in total darkness is where the screen performs the best :smileytongue: If we don't count the black loading screens that is.

Hardly a BOLD statement. More my own opinion really. It's just a lot of the 'problems' people are experiencing with the oled display don't really occur on an IPS display. Well not on my iPhone 4 or iPad 2 anyways. Yes the blacks aren't as black, but the colours are more natural (although I do like the vitas vibrancy), and viewing angles are better.

This is my experience so far.

Also oled is a newer technology therefore more expensive, so cost wouldn't be a problem?

As for battery life, yes an IPS display would most probably be worse, but surely Sony could compensate somehow.

Anyway, these are merely my thoughts as I am still really happy with my vita and enjoying the gaming experience.

Re: Think your VITA OLED screen is perfect? Think again...

One thing that I was expecting but turned out to not happen was the brightness of the screen ouside beeing better than phones and other gadgets, my Samsung GIO has more brightness than my VITA, I thought OLED would allow a MUCH better viewing experience outside, it's still better than on a PSP, buit not as good as I thought it would be.

I don't play much outside, but I can see this beeing a problem to students who play alot on school or while on a bus if theres sun coming through the windows...

Re: Think your VITA OLED screen is perfect? Think again...

Just an update.

Went to GAME and they traded my 3G VITA no questions asked! It was so hassle-free that it was even suspicious XD

My New-new 3G Vita screen is MUCH better, even better than my wi-fi only VITA, so yeah, world is spinning again for me!

Kudos to GAME for an excelent costumer service!

My ps vita has vertical lines and black dots. I am very dissapointed of my hardware and Sony doesn t want to fix my console. Vertical lines are very irritating and they are noticeable in many games on the vita. I think Sony treats worse Polish customers since they do not want to exchange or fix faulty consoles. I am not the only one who was ignored.
