Hello everyone!
I'm a photographer from Portugal and a passioned gamer, and above all a technologic geek!
With the launch of VITA and with so many hype surrounding the handheld and it's "AMAZING OLED screen", as tech savy as I am I couldn't wait to witness the OLED magic provided on PS VITA with it's Samsung display, being a photographer that amped my curiosity and interest even more, I love color, contrast, gamma, britness and all that sort of things.
So I bought a VITA wi-fi..... and after some hours I went and bought another VITA taking advantage of a GAME promotion I didn't knew aout that would allow me to buy a VITA for €99 if I traded a PSP and some games, well, I traded my PSP 3000 (still have a PSP GO), some old PSP/PS2 and PS3 games and I bought a 3G model for €150.
So now that you know all my life... let's go to the main reason I'm creating this topic, I had already noticed something "weird" with my VITA wi-fi only screen, it had a kind of grany look where there was a larger area with the same color or soft gradient, and when I was on a very dark place, I could notice a "clouding" effect when the screen would go all black, this is barely noticeble on a dark room and invisible when there's some room light, I didn't paid much attention to it anyway, then when I was playing Lumines (MUST BUY!) on my bed at night (VITA-3G version)and when the game was on the loading screen (it's all black with only some red bars rotating on the lower-right corner) I could see very well this same effect I had previously seen on my wi-fi only VITA, it was like the screen was all dirty on the inside!
Well, I must say that despite this was invisible on most ocasions, on these situations, when in a dark room and with a very dark image on the screen, this was easily visible and very annoying to someone who was expecting a cutting edge screen, despite it's not a experience destroyer problem, it's still a problem, the very thin, almost sub-pixel grainy look visible on normal operation with the console probably comes from this aspect of the screen and has nothing to do with the tech itself.
Since words can't probably explain very well what I want to say, I'll show it with images!
NOTICE that I used a Nikon D700 and exagerated the exposition (over-exposed) so I could show the effect on a much much much more visible way, there's descriptions for each image!
The image above is the VITA-3G on picture mode showing a PURE BLACK image, so there shouldn't be nothing on screen but black, or just a solid color since it's over exposed. This is not representative of the way I see the screen when it's displaying a black image, as I said, it's over-exposed a little bit.
The image above is a more realistic showcase on how I actually see the problem, since all your monitors are different the image may be more or less visible, so while it isn't the best way to show it, it's the closer I can get of the real way to show it.
Yes, photography it's an amazing thing, this is a picture of my 3G vita showing a BLACK image on a almost totally dark room, I just took this VERY over-exposed picture to better see what was going on with the screen, and it isn't pretty! I took images of this kind on previous ocasions to other displays and I never saw nothing this dreadfull on a display, is this an OLED problem? An assembly problem? A plastic problem? WTH is that?!!!!!
Now you may think.... well, this is a faulty VITA right?
......
NO! Vy wi-fi only Vita, bought on a different retailer has the same problem, just with a different pattern to it, in a way it's more perfet since it has less "dark spots and stripes. Check it bellow.
Over-exposed
VERY over-exposed
MACRO of the problem on my wi-fi only VITA.
As you can see, this seems to be a common problem of the VITA displays, it's only visible if a very black image is being displayed and you can see it only if your in a dark place, to test the extension of the problem on your VITA just open the browser, go to google images search, search for BLACK, sabe a tottaly black image (by pressing the image for 3 seconds and choosing "save"), open it on your images viewer, for better results put your VITA britness on max (you can do this anytime by pressing the PS button for about 3 seconds and sliding the britness thing to max) and there you go, you can see how your VITA OLED screen really is....
If you want to take a picture of it, you'll need a good camera and some photography knowledge.
Please let me know how if your screen also represents this problem and if you think I should go to GAME and trade at least my 3G vita, since it's the one with the more pronnounced display problem.
Thank you for reading!
MK out!

WE ALREADY KNOW!
It's the same for every single PS Vita, so take it back and trade it for another if you like, but you'll still have the same problem.

Everyone's Vita has this, its just the way the OLED Screens are.
What do you expect the world to do? Take their Vita's back?

I never heard of this problem before with OLED tech, neither I ever saw it on other OLED devices like samsung smartphones.
I don't expect people to take their VITA's back, I'm kinda happy it's that way, so I don't have to fo to the trouble of trading it.
To the first reply guy, please get out of the internet and come back when you have something intelligent to share. Replying with caps lock won't make you smarter.

Yes, I always look for faults on everything I buy, it's a compulsive thing, I wished I could not do it but I can't!
But it's amazing on everyone is already playing the "Sony defense force" game, I never said I didn't liked the device or Sony or Playstation, if you Google my Nick you'll see I'm a PlayStation lover and I love PS Vita, that DOES NOT mean I will ignore problems I find with it just not to "bore SONY" with my complaints.

Grow up mate. Not only do people looking for faults annoy me, people using phrases such as 'fanboy' and Sony Defence Force' do too.
