It may be possible, but its clearly not the main intention otherwise they could have just included a micro HDMI instead of an AUX port.

Also notice how there seems to be another barrel port of some kind next to it which looks odd.  The other side is a simple threaded mount so clearly its a connection, perhaps a power connector for an external peripheral, otherwise they would just both be threaded screws like the PSP.

Its all very intriguing.

I nearly joked about strapping a UMD drive to the back of Vita, but when I tried to find the right words, it just didn't seem very funny anymore.

Well whatever it is for, you can guarantee it will be something expensive to buy if you want it! Like an HDMI out cable, which you just have to buy, but will set you back some ridiculous price, just like the memory cards.

Maybe because its $ony!  Where ever/when they can milk their cash cows (us), they will!  They're in it to make money, why wouldn't they?  HAHA.    Then, you could be correct, I mean its not like they have done it to us yet with the Vita on stuff like memory cards..........oh......wait.........

I know what's it for... ...Nokia is collaborating with Sony to bring N-Gage (Taco) phone to PS Vita and tadaah, now Vita is phone too

I think N-Gage was a wasted opportunity, the second model was much better and no more side talkin'!

that port is for future accessories of any kind.
psp has a tv tuner, 2 cameras, a gps
psp fat also had another unused port, plus the infrared port... never actually used by sony
if i'm not wrong i also saw some sort of chap sixaxis thingy to attach on psp

so that port on the vita can kinda do a lot of stuff, but will probably do nothing at all as usual
