Re: Why vita will fail (not trolling just opinion)

[ Edited ]

The point here is not if you bought it for games or not.  The point is some people are saying they bought it to use for task x, then spit their dummy out saying its going to fail and they sold theirs, because it doesn't DO task x or does it poorly.  That I take issue with if no promises were made that task x would be supported in the first place.

If you bought Vita for Remote Play functionality and are happy with that, then great.  But if you bought it for Remote Play and then start moaning that it doesn't do x, y, z (that Sony never said it would), then I would take issue at that.

I myself have been burned on the fact that neither of the Burnout PSP games work on the Vita in the UK, despite them working in the US.  Yes I moan about it and will continue to do so until Sony at LEAST say if they will ever work or not.  The difference is, I'm not about to go tell the world I am selling my Vita because those two games don't work.

The Remote Play is the same as the PSP.
All I want is a 320GB memory card :smileyvery-happy:

Fair enough if you bought it for games.

Why can't you just accept that the vita IS capable of so much more? I can but it is poor at the other stuff and if it is like the Ps3 updates for the apps are going to be slow

I hate to make this comparison, because I just know you'll hate it, but does anybody think that the ipod Touch  is a dedicated mp3 player, that just so happens to have apps?Don't realy know as I am not a fan off apple so I avoid their stuff

To be fair, it probably was to start with, but just look how successful it is now. And it's not just though its music playing abilities. I've got my fingers firmly crossed that the vita will be just as good.

Both of my daughters have ipods. I'd say 10-15% of their use is music, the rest of the time is spent messaging, tweeting, gamjng, facetime, skype, netflix and so on.

Vita is in the market with these devices whether you like it or not. People are comparing it with these devices even if you're not.

I do agree with you crusty. The vita is a games machine primarily. But some of us would like to see vita live up to its full potential, and in this market games won't be enough (IMO)dunno I guess we will have to wait and see.

Sony are stabbing their loyal family customers in the back - We have 3 PS3s and 3 PSPs all on the same IP address and all registered with Sony. Why can't we use them at the same time anymore?

Re: Why vita will fail (not trolling just opinion)

I'd love to take a side in this argument but I'm not qualified.

It's too early to tell. Perhaps if the console carried on for the rest of its life in the same way it has for the last month or so, then yes, I foresee stagnation and death. Presumably Sony has plans for its future that we can only guess at. If Sony's businessmen thought it was certain to fail, they'd pull the plug on it as soon as possible.

The machine's biggest selling points are its sticks and buttons, in my opinion. If Sony see it that way they should be able to find a market that is distinct from the smartphone market.

Re: Why vita will fail (not trolling just fact)

A couple of days ago I had to travel to Birmingham for work. I regularly carry a laptop, smartphone, iPod Touch and now my Vita. It was a busy train so getting the laptop out was a no go. I'm not always in a position to charge my phone and I need it so wasting the battery on games is a bad idea. That left the iPod and the Vita. I chose to play the one that had WipEout 2048 on it.

The thing is, we all buy things for different reasons and I'm not about to say that my reasons are any more valid than anyone elses although to me they obviously are. I bought the Vita to play the exclusive games on the machine not just play "any" games and I think that's a key point here. Had WipEout 2048 for example been released on the iPod Touch or on pc then I may not have bothered with the Vita but it was so I bought it. I mean how many people buy a games console and then check to see what games are available for it?

As far as having one device that does everything goes I can't say I want that. To play the kind of games I like takes more than just a touch screen so you'd need something the size of the Vita (possibly a little larger) and if you're using it for everything then battery life will become a major issue. Having all the extras on the Vita is nice and I will happily use what's there but if it can't do everything then I'm not going to cry about it.

That said it's probably worth mentioning Netflix at this point. If it wasn't announced and wasn't already available in the States then I wouldn't care but as it is I do find it a little galling that it hasn't been sorted out for the EU store yet. Ah well. I can always use Netflix on my iPod, or my phone, or my laqptop...... etc.

Re: Why vita will fail (not trolling just fact)

MS had their backs to the wall not so long ago and they threw money at anyone who would take it, look at them now. I dont own any XBOX and have never, I have owned Sony consoles from PS1, that is going to change when the next generation launches, if you are from NA or EU it seems that XBOX is your best bet, Sony do not give a fiddlers fart about the west.

Vita is on the brink but I think it will be OK this time next year.

It's not selling well in us or uk either. Remember Japan is the country where handheld is king so what chance realistically does it have here or US??

Its not about the handheld itself in japan, its about the games that can be played on it and Japan have a different prefence to games compared to Europe/US. So people in Japan may be less fans of games like uncharted compared to the rest of the world.

The reason why the Vita is not selling as well is that there isnt many games that has their interest compared to the 3DS at this moment, but remember at the same point of the 3DS life, it was going through the same problems as it had a lack of games.
