Vita can't fail. it has no competition. neither does the 3DS or the iPod/iPad.
All the handhelds are in their own class.
Except for app war between Apple vs Android.

I don't see the Vita failing, but do see it as a risky venture with the current market. The iOS and android platforms are starting to produce longer, xbox360-ps3 quality games now at bucket bin price. These platforms have been available some time, whereas people are still learning the new beast that is Vita. Then there are other gaming handhelds already saturating the market like N3DS. Sony will swim, but i think for a year or so it will be more like a doggy paddle.

Problem is though in a years time there will most likely be a more powerful than vita smartphone on the market, then that truly will be the final nail in the coffin
