Re: Yellowgate (PS Vita version)

Okay so... I sent the yellow-screened replacement back off to Amazon and purposely kept my original Vita as it has a perfect screen (imo). In return, I got another brand new Vita, and this is what it looks like, you're looking at the bottom Vita for the new replacement, and the top for my original Vita:

Yeah, it's nowhere near as bad as the last one I had, but it's still just enough to annoy me. I'm very picky, as you can probably tell...

I think I may just keep my original Vita, I think I can bear a few errors and corrupt notices every once in a while so I can keep my nice 'normal' screen (normal to me anyway).

Usually, with TV's, I can't stand Warm colour tones, so I will usually change it straight away to Cool/Normal depending on the TV set. Somehow, it's more relaxing on my eyes as blue is my favourite colour and I like my blue colours to be as blue as possible. :smileysad:

The one on the bottom looks better if you ask me!

Re: Yellowgate (PS Vita version)

It seems to be brighter than my original Vita at least. As for it being better, I wouldn't say that at all. The screen is far less contrasty and just overall looks very dull and washed out. Maybe it's because I'm used to the old one I don't know, but it's definitely not as eye popping as my good old original one.

Either way, I'm stuck with this new one now anyway, since Yodel are coming to collect the old one tomorrow.

I want a full refund tbh. And if Amazon won't give me a refund, I'll just flog it on eBay. I may try my luck again with the Vita in the future, but right now it seems impossible to get a Vita that I am personally happy with. I should add thay my 3DS has caused me no problems at all, and I can game on that in the meantime, so I won't be without my portable gaming fix.

It's a shame as the Vita is the best portable console I have ever used. I've used it every single day since launch date and it's exceeded my expectations and blew me away. However, all these problems are just too heartbreaking. :smileysad: A whole year and 2 months of waiting for this amazing console, and I'm put off by something quite minor. Ughhhhhh.

Re: Yellowgate (PS Vita version)

It obviously does not show in the photos as I have to agree, the bottom one looks more white than the top one to me.

Makes me wonder though if you would consider mine too yellow.  Its not as eye burningly blue tinted as I would necessarily choose, but it doesn't bother me as I haven't seen one that looks "better".  I wouldn't say mine looks warm though, that would annoy me.

That's always what sucks about being able to compare though.  My friend had a 3DS with the same problem, his seemed a lot duller than mine and with poorer contrast and yellowy.  Fortunately it didn't bother him, but it would have really annoyed me.

I had my 3DS repaired for the scratched screen issue and when I got it back I would SWEAR the tint had changed.  However its unlikely they would alter the LCD as there was nothing wrong with it and I know I got my console back a it has telltale scratches on the silver section.

Re: Yellowgate (PS Vita version)

[ Edited ]

I just wish Sony never opted to use an OLED display in the PS Vita. It's been nothing but bother for me, and looking around the internet, everybody seems to be the same. OLED technology is definitely not ready to be on the market yet IMO. If it's not for the yellow-tint problem, it's the dark spots (or blotches), and if it's not for them, it's the vertical lines (mura), and then you have the dreadful viewing angles, horrible outdoor performance etc.

My PS Vita has the worst looking screen of any consumer tech in my house by far, it's totally washed out, dull, has inaccurate colours and has those problems I listed above. Even my old PSP-1000 has a better screen than the Vita, which makes me disappointed to say.

In the future, I'm going to avoid buying anything that uses an OLED display unless these problems have been ironed out. Just like I don't think the 3DS should have had 3D because of the awful viewing angles, OLED shouldn't have been in the Vita as it's just not ready yet. The PS Vita's screen is completely letting the build quality of the console down. Getting an acceptable system seems completely pot-luck, it shouldn't be that way.

I am onto my 4th PS Vita and I'm sending this one back too.

Me too :smileywink:

OLED screen on the Vita = Best screen on a portable device.  In my opinion anyway

Re: Yellowgate (PS Vita version)

I guess this whole issue is about personal preference. However, absolutely nobody can deny that the OLED defects are there! Whether or not you can put up with them is entirely upto you. Me personally, no, I can't.
