Well, I've said it before.... but let's not forget at the time of the launch of the PS3, there were two games of substance, SACD was a niche market, linux was of little use to your average gamer, and bluray (certainly early gen bluray discs) was largely considered inferior to HD-DVD... The online service was inferior to the 360, and multiplatform games were always inferior to their 360 cousins... and the console itself was much more expensive.
And here we are now, through all the hacking and linux controversies, removal of hardware functionality..... it is still here and selling, and now has some exclusives which IMO blow the 360 exclusive lineup away... (I still feel the Gears of War series and Forza 3 and 4 are the only mindblowing 360 exclusives)
Now take the Vita, unlike the 360 it doesn't even any direct opposition. (ignore all the iGeeks, comparing a tablet and gaming handheld is like comparing a clothes washer and dishwasher)... I just don't see it not having a reasonably successful future..

No I learnt my lession after buying a PS3, 360, PSP and wii on day 1.
I will wait for the price drop, see what games come out, the true functionality and how reliable it is.
People are already complaing that the Vita picks up scratches, loading times are too long and the screen not as good as hyped.
Also the most of the games are just rehashes, Wipout but I do like the look of MS RC, but that looks like a money waster due to DLC.

Kind of, but at the same time, not really.
The quality of the games are excellent, it feels like I have a ps3 in my hands!
But on the other hand I would like more entertainment features on it (like youtube, flash web browser etc) Although the blotches on the screen in certain dark areas distract you when you're trying to watch something.
I know it's a gaming console, but it wouldn't be a bad thing if they did add it.
I guess I'd be better off getting a tablet for that kind of stuff (an android one, not an iPad)
What really annoys me is their memory card gimmick. If that isn't ripping off customers then I don't know what is. And I want to play my ps1 games!

How would you do that exactly? Seeing as the reason the PS3 CAN'T play PS2 games is because its not powerful enough without additional hardware.
As has already been mentioned on the forum, PS2 re-releases on PS3 are recompiled and modified for the PS3 - something hackers can't do as they do not have the original game source code.
As for the screen not being as good as promised, I claim BS. Those "blotches" only happen if you are playing in pitch black but the way you are talking you would think it was visible in normal operating conditions, but its not. So if it bothers you so much, turn a bloody lamp on.
No screens are designed to be operated in pitch black and particularly OLED, LCD and Plasma are intended to be used in a moderately lit room to prevent eye strain and give the illusion of blacker blacks.
The ONLY huge flaw with the PS Vita screen is its poor performance in sunlight. But then I have never seen any screen that is really worth using in sunlight. Even transflective screens on some phones while good enough for playing casual games or operating phone features, they are still uncomfortable to look at over any serious length of time. I wouldn't want to play Wipeout on one of them.
