Now take the Vita, unlike the 360 it doesn't even any direct opposition. (ignore all the iGeeks, comparing a tablet and gaming handheld is like comparing a clothes washer and dishwasher)... I just don't see it not having a reasonably successful future..
What's the 3DS then? I'd say it is fairly hefy competition actually.
Does the 3DS play handheld versions of PS3 games?.... No, so the argument of apples and orange still applies.... The two are as similar as the Wii and PS3...
Sure, some portable gamers won't be specific, but gamers who want to buy handheld versions of (in the future) Call of Duty games, Need for Speed games and certainly the Playstation exclusives, like LBP, Resistance, Killzone, Uncharted... aren't going to buy a 3DS for it...
Thats just like saying the 360 and Ps3 arn't direct compertion as you can't play LBP, Killzone, uncharted ect on the 360.
The 3DS is in direct compertion with the Vita just like the Vita having it's own exclusives the 3DS has just like when the PSP was up against the DS.
That the idea of competion is to offer simular but different experience and give the gamer the choice.
People will choose the 3ds over the Vita and vice verca just like they do with the ps3 and 360.
Sorry but if you say that Vita and 3DS are not in direct comertion then you are deluded as that is why sony brought the hand held out to take as much of the market away from nintendo be it DS or 3DS.

Absolute rubbish. The 3DS and Vita are both portable systems and in direct competition with each other. Whether the 3DS plays console level games or not is totally irrelevant. Even the Vita doesn't play console level games although it does come a lot closer to the experience then the 3DS. The 3DS may not be able to provide the same experience but it never the less provides a unique game playing experience and if you look at the sales number in Japan where it's compared to the Vita it's outselling it ten to one and that stat speaks for itself. Sony may be going after a different market Nd may be providing a different type of experience it's still a portable games console experience.

I think I understand what they meant.
Anyone wanting the kind of games that Nintendo offer are famous for, are going to head straight for 3DS.
Anyone looking for a home-console quality experience on the move, is going to head to Vita.
In that sense, neither console offers what the other does so they are not competing with each for those customers, there really is no contest. I own a 3DS and beyond Nintendo exclusives, I doub't I will be buying any new games for it.
Where they ARE competing is people who do not have a preference either way. People who just want "something to play on the move". They are both competing with smartphones for those customers so both sides may lose in the end there.
What we have to hope is that there are enough people out side of that category to prop up the Vita so that developers will get a decent return on their investment.

I disagree they are trying to get all the custermers they can.
I like sony implimented touch screen which many sony and MS both scoffed at when it first came to the DS
Yes sony gone one further with rear touch
DS has gone with 3D
The priginal PSP was anunced before the DS once sony announced it Nintnedo rushed the DS out to compete with the PSP as the gameboy advance would not compete.
Same with 3ds and Vita they have gone a slightly different direction but no doubt they are to try and take custermers away from each other so yes they are competeing.

Depends on where you get your info. I saw a bloke on YouTube playing Battlefield 3 via remote play. My friend changed his mind watching this and said he would get a Vita now. And I said I will buy Battlefield now! Further investigation shows that the guy did a firmware mod to enable that. So my mate isn't buying a Vita and me not buying Battlefield 3.
I recall KillZone 3 on a Vita poster advertising remote play. There are only 3 games I know of that work via remote play. The only one I have is Peggle which, lets face it, who is gonna bother with that through remote play. The other ones are small downloads too so not KillZone 3 remote play.
Not robbed, just a bit mislead.
I thought I'd be able to get Netflix as well as I researched and folks online were saying how great it was! Turns out it is only in the US!
PSone downloads shortly after release. Shortly? Still no news on that one! Also I heard before buying my Vita they were just 'trying' to get a Flash player although Adobe had announced Flash is dead. Finger's crossed that a Flash Player will be implemented.
I love WipEout (main reason I got Vita) so I'm disappointed my WipEout2048 online progress keeps resetting so Im waiting for an update with that. I sold my PSP as seemed old and dated compared to my Galaxy S. Shame I cant download ModNation PSP which I own to my Vita as I'm not at all interested in the Vita version & I bought the Vita as a PSP replacement upgrade.
WipEout Pulse Looks great on the Vita. I Can't see how to get the WipEout Pure DLC content on Vita though.
All in all great device but I should have waited until next year to buy one as it would have been cheaper with less Bugs/ glitches & there will be more games at a more affordable price. Probably more features too.

Bingo... ![]()
Sorry, I shouldn't have bought exclusives into it, because that only confused the point I was trying to get at... so lets try again, and just compare the 3 main consoles on the market.... The 360 and PS3 are direct competition to oneanother. With the exception of the 3 or 4 purely exclusive franchises left now, on a purely gaming level, they do pretty much the same thing. The Wii doesn't... The Wii, kinda like the last ten years of Nintendo consoles, does it's own thing... Yes, as gamers all 3 manufacturers are vying for our money, but if I want to play FPS games, action/adventure games, driving 'simulators', the big name games are on the PS3 and 360, be they Call of Duty, Killzone or Halo...... Shift 2, GT5 or Forza 4..
Same with the handheld market, except as yet Microsoft do not have a portable console... the Vita is to portables what the 360 and PS3 are to console gaming.... the 3DS is once again, Nintendo being Nintendo...

Resident Evil on the 3DS looks as good as anything on the Vita right now
Still compertion they hope to take sales away from each other.
The Wii may not be as powerful as the 360 and ps3 but yes it is of the same generation and is compertion for the ps3 and 360 which is why move and kinect came out to take some of the wii gamers on board.

Yes technically the Vita and 3DS are competing with each other, but on the same level that PC, Android tablets, the iPad and 360/PS3 are competing. At some point you have to look more closely at where they are DIRECTLY competing, (comparable functionality) to see where it fits in the market. That is what we were doing.
I totally disagree that Resident Evil on 3DS is anything close to Vita quality, if anything its a PSP game. Its also a bit of a drag being on such a small screen and I hated the analog sliders, they just aren't as precise as the Vita sticks.
Even with the circle pad pro, its just not even close to what the game could be like on Vita. In fact its making me have second thoughts about getting a Wii U too.
