You might want think why before getting all uptight about it. This has always been the case. Asda is a supermarket chain that makes most of its money from its food business. The games is a small part of their business and they can afford to sell those items near cost or at a loss. Gamestation sells videogames stuff only and can't afford to sell at such low prices. I'm not saying the prices places like Game and Gamestation aren't too high but their are business related reasons behind that.

The problem is that Gamestation are charging more than Sony for an 8Gb card. Sony sell these for £29.99 themselves.

Re: memory card rip-offs

That's because Sony is selling them directly with no middle man. They manufacture them and sell them. Gamestation has to either buy them from Sony or a distributor and then add on a certain amount to make profit. I worked for GAME for around three years plus I also worked at an independent game shop for around a year. When I worked at the Indy shop I had access to the prices both the manufacturers and distributors charged. Admittedly Indy stores have to pay a little more but it gave me a better understanding of margins.

Indeed - I got my 16GB from ASDA at the midnight launch, and a few games - much cheaper than gamestation. Shame about Game / gamestation being in trouble, but hiking up prices won't help, it will just make more people turn away....

Re: memory card rip-offs

The memory cards are very pricey.

I got a 4gig in my £250 bundle but I will need to upgrade in the near future
