Re: memory size?

I'm hoping that the game cards themselves will have some sort of storage capacity so that any updates/DLC are saved directly to the game card and not to the Memory Card, which will save me Memory Card space.

It would have been nice to see some sort of internal memory but I think Sony side stepped this to try and cut costs on the unit itself.

I think Sony has chosen Pro Duo M2 Memory Cards, the smaller mem cards for the Vita, I have an 8gb at home, but my concern is the size of the games. Currently, my M2 has about 10-12 games on it. If Vita games are any bigger (in terms of file size) than current PSP games then i'm going to need a bigger M2 card.

I think the biggest  file sizes i've seen on the PSP is 1.4 gigs which is GT, Modnation, Smackdown and Killzone. and Killzone and Smackdown will be going straight on my VITA as two of my most played games.

Re: memory size?

I read somewhere that the game cards will be 2-3 gigs large, and about 10% of that will be used for any updates, saves, and possibly extra content you download for the game.

As for the file sizes, they are going to be larger than the Psp games currently for download. The graphics are going to be more advanced and the machanics are more advanced, so the game sizes aren't going to be 1 gig, most likely they are going to be roughly 2 almost 3, but then again i'm just assuming.

Re: memory size?

Hang on a minute, Sony never once said there WON'T be internal memory. What people are getting confused with is that fact that Sony haven't mentioned anything regarding internal memory sizes as of yet. Doesn't mean there won't be any. :/

The Vita shouldn't and wouldn't be released if there was no internal memory. Some of the Apps such as Near would obviously need to function with some space for storage. How much memory that is though, we don't know. It could be anything from 50mb to 64GB, but I doubt there would be more than 16GB tbh. The PSPgo had more than enough memory, plus the ability to use memory cards which I could never once fill. Since the PSN is so good for digital downloads, it doesn't matter anyway. You can just delete your downloaded games/save them on the PS3 and your gamesaves would still be intact next time you install them your PSP.

As long as there's enough internal memory for it to be able to function properly, then I really don't care about how much memory that is, because I'd just buy a memory card. For comparison, the 3DS has about 100mb of internal memory and shipped with a 2GB SD card, that's the best way to do it imo. :smileyhappy:

Yeah, obviously there'll be RAM, but there needs to be some kinda internal storage for it to be able to have the defualt Apps on it.

Please, please find the link where Sony have straight out said that there WON'T be any internal storage. Everywhere I've seen just isn't sure whether or not there will be.

I like the Vita a lot and aim to buy one on release, but if it came with 0MB of internal storage, I'd have to rethink about buying one. I don't know any product I've bought in the past 6 years that doesn't have internal storage, and that was my PSP. :smileyindifferent:

Re: memory size?

more important than internal storage is that the ram has recently been cut in half to 256mb

which i think would seriously compromise the "transfaring" iniciative.

i'd rather they get rid of teh rear touch panel than reduce ram

Nah, if it is true, it's still eight times as much RAM as the PSP and it's a problem for the developers, not for the consumers. Give me the rear touch panel - currently the main thing that distinguishes the device from competitors. Plus you'll need the rear touch panel for emulating L2 and R2, which will make PS3 connectivity stronger and PS2 emulation more probable...

I agree that used right the rear touch pad is a must, dont see a problem with the 256mb long as it is used well, after all isnt that the same as the ps3?

later revisions of the vita may have more memory as they did with psp I believe its only the 1000s that have only 32mb the rest have 64mb.

Re: memory size?

Huh. Apparently it does have 512MB of RAM.

That's twice as much as the PS3. :smileysurprised:

And though the video RAM is only 128MB to the PS3's 256MB, at a screen resolution of 'only' 960x544 compared to a possible 1920 x 1080, that actually works out at twice as much RAM per pixel...
