trying to convert some films I have but dont know whats the best the vita can support

Videos from the store seem to be 1.5Mbit for the video, audio is stereo AAC.

Translation

16/9 720p

up to 18Mb/s video and audio combined bitrate.

Real world use.. 

720p at 4Mb/s video

With 320kb/s AAC audio.

or 

480p at 1.5Mb/s

with upto  320Kb/s AAC audio..

There is no point encoding any higher than 960x544 though.

True of you ONLY have a PS vita.

There is if you own MORE than a PS Vita and want only 1 file version... that works on More devices...

Lap top, Desktop, PS3 and Vita With out re-encodes or Transcoding.

Also true.  But I would personally rather have two copies of everything than take up more precious space on the precious Vita memory card than necesary.
