Hy All!
I`m wondering if i buy the wifi only model and tather the internet from my iphone will it show me the place where am i, like near and this sort of apps? i read many different messages, some of them said yes they tathering internet from an iphone to ipad and the ipad shows the location... some says no becouse personal hotspots r not registered to skyhook or what... so can anyone feed me back about this? pls! it would be a big help.... also i was thinking if i buy the 3g model and tathering the internet from cell, will the gps in it shows me the location? i mean the gps doesn`t need any internet connection, but the maps? so any idea?

As far as I'm aware tethering had already been done successfully.

I don't think it's the only way. I'm pretty sure a number of people who imported the Japanese and Hong Kong consoles have done it with various phones and not just Android.

Bear in mind that just because Near will work doesn't mean all games/apps which are designed to use your location will work.
Location based services without GPS require one of two methods:
a) cell transmitters (not possible with WiFi model)
b) WiFi network maps
The latter basically is where a car has driven along every road mapping out WiFi MAC addresses and signal strength against its current location calculated from GPS, so that it can compare that data to what networks your device currently sees to guesstimate where you are. The more networks, the more precise the signal is likely to be.
However you have to bear in mind that as people change ISPs, change routers, that information can become stale unless they regularly drive along the same roads updating the information. For this reason I'm impressed its as accurate as it is.

I know it works on the HTC Sensation. Pretty well too.
