PS Vita region-free yes, but what about DLC and online?

22 Replies 25,681 Views Created 18-06-2012

Hey

So I'm in AU but looking to buy a couple of games from the UK to save the storage space on my memory card vs downloading.  Also, I sadly can't find PS Vita games in the shops here in AU, it's ridonkulous, but I was wondering.... I know that the game itself will work fine but if I buy Gravity Rush and Resistance from the UK, will the DLC (if any) and online pass still work here in AU?

Has anyone tested or tried this?

Many thanks peoples

Peace, love and Playstation.

Happy days!

DLC probably won't work (though I haven't tried it). It's usually region locked to some degree.

It's not clear from your post here what account you're planning to use. I imagine you have an AU playstation account - in which case the DLC from UK/Europe (or anywhere else outside your region) won't work.

However, if you were to use a UK account then the DLC would work even though you're in Aus. This is strictly speaking outside the t's and c's of Sony's network (but for MLB The Show online pass, Sony support suggested people use a US account despite being outside the US region....tacit approval it seems from some Sony divisions).

The problem with having a UK account is that you'll need to make any PSN purchases using UK funding so you'd either need a nice relative to register a UK credit card for you or buy PSN cards from UK stores. The other problem is that trophies and PSN friends etc will not be on the UK account which is also annoying.

Good Luck anyway.

Rotor.

Just to add both DLC and online passes are region specific or locked.

Thanks for the replies peoples... I've just ordered the 2 games anyway because I'm dying to play them and couldn't wait for the stores here to stock them... if that even happens :smileymad:

All in all, I'm not too interested in online multiplayer for Resistance (or any game for that matter) but thought I'd give it a try if it's available.  I'm not sure Gravity Rush will ever get any DLC so that'll be fine also.

Appreciate the friendly responses to my first ever PSforum question too, you guys are awesome, good stuff.

Cheers

Yeah I just saw that...  but doesn't it only come with the deluxe version if you buy it from PSN?  I can't see an option to buy it separately anyway?

I think the 'buyable' DLC for Gravity Rush hits the store either later today (tomorrow, AUS time) or next week.

It should be available separately for purchase. Besides only the first one is included as a bonus with the game when preordered from certain retailers or purchased on PSN. There are at least two or three more DLC packs coming,

I thought in cases of DLC Sony bundled Australia in with Europe.

Nope. DLC only works with PSN accounts from the same country/region.

But........ AU is same region as UK unless I'm mistaken. Bought my Vita in US with Uncharted. Recognises my UK account no problem. However as a test, have downloaded the DLC map from my UK account and it will not allow access to it, do beware. All is not as straight forward as it may seem!

I might get a few games from Aussie and Newzie, they seem quite cheap! But thanks for the info! In that case the serials on the games must be the same as to those on the PAL UK versions, I'm an ex-Xbox 360 gamer and I know this is the case for Left 4 Dead 2 which was censored in AU... My friend from Austrailia borrowed my account and downloaded DLC that was unavailable and it worked like a charm!

Ok, what about buying an imported game attaching it to my psn account then download activated/purchased dlc, will the dlc work? Wipeout 2048 American version, NZ psn account.

A US import game will work with your NZ account but dlc won't, as the dlc is for a different region.

Like AUS NZ comes under Scee region.

Muttykins, there are Austraillian releases of games, but their not European versions, but yet how is DLC downloaded? There is no Engilish- Austrailia on the system, they use English - United Kingdom. Can I use Austrailian online passes and game codes on a UK account? There isn't a region for AU on PSN, or is there?

Sure am disappointed that the DLC will continue to get region locked,

Sony only hurting customers since lots of people buy Vita and import games from Japan.

Being stuck on Hatsune Miku Project Diva f sure was annoying as i will never be able to buy its DLC

since i got no japanese psn account nor can use another psn account.

Below is a Signature

Sony are stabbing their loyal family customers in the back - We have 3 PS3s and 3 PSPs all on the same IP address and all registered with Sony. Why can't we use them at the same time anymore?

I have Project Diva F, great game, would love to buy the DLC. But it's not really that realistic that they would set all that up on the store just for (e.g.) UK gamers... would be such a hassle for them to do. Don't get me wrong I would love the DLC. I'm just grateful we can buy games from Japan at all.
