What's this world coming to!

lol yeah what a poor income & lively hood they have  go back and read about SOPA!

It's throught their work that got them famous which is their livelyhood and income with out it they would be no one!

Who of those have no livelyhood / income??

do you mean How many of those --------?

I said with out

With out their work they would not be where they are today so they have every right to protect it.

With out the work that they have produced they would have no income/livley hood

It is their work that got them to where they are and they have a right to protect it.

I am not saying SOPA is the right way as it does go to far but they certainly have a right to protect it.

stop contradicting yourself...

They dont need ANY form of protection they HAVE a HUGE income/livley hood! :smileyindifferent: we aint living in the 80s anymore if artist want 2 make money they need 2 step up the game and do good shows/entertainment etc. that ppl would pay for -/ "2011 .... SOPA have/Is jack all about the artists, its about the US gov. wanting more control of the WWW that THEY dont have the right 2.!

I am not contradicting myself!

These people would not be famous if it was not for their work.

They every right to protect their work from being pirated.

But as I said SOPA goes to far! It takes it from one extreme to anther.

Many of these stars do great show granted many do not.

Many stars tour for 90% of the year.

Yes the US government want more control they always yeah more control they are power hungry and always have been and that is not going to change.

But that does give the people the right to hack and steal copy righted things.

SOPA does not care jack about the Artist's but they do not care that their action affect the Artist just like when PSN went down it effected PS3 gamers not just Sony.

They have no thought about the effects off the actions on others all they care about is them selves.

SOPA is wrong but so are these people who sart hacking/steeling ect. Two wrongs don't make it right!

No the US covernment have no right as neither do these hackers.

I will support neither.

Gonna have to dispell a few more misconceptions.

Firstly "their work" isnt theirs.

Yes there has been a recent trend amongst pop starlets that they will write their own lryics but this has been because its the writer who has all the control over their "work"    The "artists" (in the music industry)  is just a front person who looks good for the camera and portrays an image.  Everything they do is contrived by someone else.

"artists" have historically not actually earnt anything. The record company and their sponsers are paying for everything. Revenue is recouped from sales.

Even so the writers are also not always the owners of the "work"   they will often selll a song and give up their rights.

You need to break down every little component detail to discover who is making the money and who actually owns what copyrights.

People like Taylor Swift and other celebreties who are jumping on the bandwagon are doing so because they are under contract and the record company are using them to get their message across.

Digital is causing all sorts of problems and legeslation isnt helping whatsoever.  Books, Games, Music and "media" are all huge industries and we only see from the outside.

The truth is that the little guy has sold out to the big companies and the big companies are milking every penny they can.

I like what you said when you don't suppoort either.

I cannot defend the big companies who care more about profits and treat the consumer badly.  Also I cannot support the idiots who believe that what they are doing is justified.

Conversly, If your gonna sell out to "the man" then you also lose my support.

I know many many singers do not write their own songs.

Some do.

Taylor Swift either Writes or co/writes the songs she sings

To me true Artist is some one who sits down and writes the songs as well as sings them.

Singer song writer is a dying art being replaced with manafactured bands who can't write for their lives.

But as you say many are under contract to do this not that they want to do it.

Re: Anonymous: Message to SONY on SOPA. Not this crap again..

[ Edited ]

the thing about artists/writers/producers etc is that the whole industry (and all the others) is just about money. no one is questioning their right for their intellectual property but everyone is selling out at the quickest route to the money.

The internet is supposed to be about bringing the world closer together in this "communication" age but instead the internet has become all about money. (and porn)

What harm is it that I want to watch my fav TV show online ? I cannot go to the official source because I get a block message about being in the wrong country. Sooo I end up going to an alternate source where the "copyrights" are breached. All I wanna do is watch my fav TV show. Why is it restricted ? MONEY. "Advertising" and "Broadcasting Rights"

Thankfully sky recently lost their court battle with a certain pub owner. All because she wanted to provide a decent service to her customers and do it at an affordable price.

IF they really wanted to break piracy then they would relax their stupid restrictions. Consider the Cinema/BluRay release windows and how much piracy would be reduced if they moved to a simultaneous release model. However; what happened when Disney reduced this window...

what about all those who are in breach of the T&C's by having a US account ? How many complaints are there about content being restricted by territory ? (yes I know about the legal constraints) we do this for a reason.

Whilst I cannot condone piracy. I find myself justifying its existence. Piracy fills a need for the consumer. Whether its "value" "convenience" or just a question of availability. The consumer is the driving force behind piracy. IF all these big companies wanted to remove piracy they would simply provide the service we actually want/need. Unfortunately they prefer to milk us for every penny instead.

There is no need for another law to be passed and there is no need for this group to act in such a childish and counterproductive way. *****'em both tbh

Re: Anonymous: Message to SONY on SOPA. Not this crap again..

About time :smileyhappy:

Big video game companies, Nintendo, Electronic Arts and Sony Electronics drop support for SOPA

http://www.businessinsider.com/the-largest-game-companies-in-the-world-have-dropped-their-support-fo...

Nintendo, Electronic Arts and Sony Electronics — some of the largest video game companies in the world — have all pulled their support for an online bill that could encourage censorship online, according to an updated list of supporters of the bill.

Those three companies all supported the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) when it first entered Congress, according to a report from Joystiq in November.

SOPA, along with the PROTECT IP act in the Senate, give content-producing companies the right to order a take down for a website that they believe is infringing on a copyright. If you even host links to content that infringes on a copyright, you have to take it down.

If not, the copyright owner can request that the infringing site has its advertising and transaction revenue cut off. Or it can request that a domain name — like businessinsider.com — be blacklisted and rendered inaccessible.
