Apperently S.C.E.E. are to shut down the online servers for motorstorm pacific rift on October 1st for ps 3 ok i dont play online very much with the game but what happens with all the online trophies that the game has will they patch them out because if your like me and enjoy collecting trophies and people get the game either brand new or second hand they are not going to be able to get all the trophies for the platinum trophy and 100% the game.
That is just horrid, but that is the model of companies these days, wouldn't it be descent if they just setup a P2P server which could support a good few games and let the gamers who still play the game, host the game. one P2P server could be used by quite alot of games, all that is needed is a patch for the game.
At least do this for first party titles.
this is way every game with online gaming option should have lan from the start. so people can host the game them self, long after the companies that dont want to have their own p2p up and running anymore.. because 90% of the games out there is p2p now days and not dedicated servers. they only use servers for scoreboards, trophies, matchmaking etc. while you use your own bandwidth.
My PS3 career don't end in November 2013... Trey for life!
To be fair to the publishers, games generally only have their servers completely shutdown when the game is past its generation. Pacific Rift is an old game now and I doubt it has enough people on the servers to justify the expense. Would love to see an independent P2P server to run these games into the future but this tends to present various security issues.
Simple answer is that if you haven't played the game to completion already you probably aren't going to.
Sauce for those who want it:
...and in turn...
Reading the second link does take me back a few years to when the PS2 first got its online function... Twisted Metal Black online... SOCOM!!
