HDMI without HDCP?

3 Replies 300 Views Created 29-11-2007
Does the Display need to support H.D.C.P to be able to play games via the HDMI socket on the ps3.

Just bought a Ps3 but don't (yet) have a HDTV was wandering if I got a HDMI > DVI adaptor if i could get away with using my pc monitor or if the screen needed to support HDCP

I know Movies would require HDCP but I was wandering if the games do...

There isn't a VGA or DVI lead for the ps3 like the 360 is there

Re: HDMI without HDCP?

My brother tried a HDMI to DVI adaptor / cable with his PS3 and NON-HDCP Asus monitor. Didn't work on games or films. He ended up buying some box from Hong-Kong that converts the signal. He said he wished he'd have relaised that he needed a HDCP compatible monitor - so the answer is 'you need HDCP' I guess, unless you buy one of these boxes.

Re: HDMI without HDCP?

Yes you need HDCP compliant monitors or tv's to play ps3 on in hd. You can use the HDCP strip boxes, but they are a bit of a grey area regarding legality at the moment, but they do work.
