My PS3 has a yellow light?

10 Replies 5,255 Views Created 17-05-2009

Hello, I turned on the playstation this morning and it has a yellow light and will not turn on.  I bought it in June 2007, it's a 60GB.

I do have a gamecare warrenty but I know that if it needs replaced I will only get a 40GB.  Obviously I want a 60gb.  Is there anything I can do or does is it totally gone.

I have an amazing ff7 save which I spent over 200 hours on, and I am only at the end of the first disc.

Also Pro evo is still in the machine.  What happens with that.

Re: My PS3 has a yellow light?

Look at 'Yellow Light Of Death' threads in the technical support.  I got a disc out of mine when it was like this by leaving it off for a while then turning it on using the eject button.  You have to get lucky and it ejects before it shuts down.

You've basically lost your saves unless you fix it yourself, here's a link:

It's not without risk and cost and if you have a warranty I suggest getting it replaced instead.  See if you can get an 80GB replacement.  A 40GB isn't so bad if you intend to change the hard drive anyway.  If you've changed the hard drive already remember to change it back before sending your console off.

I got a £145 60GB replacement through Sony helpline earlier this year.  It takes two weeks.

Thanks for the replies.  I am disappointed, I just phoned Sony and they told me it costs £145 to get it replaced.  I am just finishing university, have just been told I am not getting kept on in summer in my job because they have been affected by the recession and am in a heap of debt.  I can't even afford to attend my own graduation day, which is the most important day of my life so far.  To now find that I have no playstation is utterly disappointing.  I just checked my game warrenty and it ran out last week.  I thought I had taken out 3 years, not 2.

I wanted a replacement 60gb because I reguarly play PS2 games.  I paid the extra money for it.

I have no console now and can't afford anything.  :smileysad:

- obviously he/she wanted to max out levels before moving on.  Must have a lot of patience.  the most I did was get to the highest limit levels possible on disc one.
