My Western digital 1TB internal HDD

30 Replies 2,539 Views Created 18-06-2010

Hiya PS3 crew...

I have formatted my My Western digital 1TB internal HDD to FAT32.

I have modified my large PS3 (not Slim) so that the HDD fits inside my PS3. I get this message when starting my PS3.

cannot start. correct hard disk was not found.

I have put in my original 40gb HDD and the PS3 works fine so my modifications to the HDD slot have not defected my PS3.

Can anyone help me get my 1TB internal HDD boot the PS3 so i can update from my back i have done.

Is the Western Digital 1TB HDD compatible with the PS3?

Forgive me as i am a NOOBSTER!

Note... I have tried the master reset on the console and still get the same message (cannot start. correct hard disk was not found.)

Any HELP is much appreciated :smileyhappy:

Big love

James

What are those Blue Scorpion Drives like?  I was looking at getting one is all, and wanted to know if they are decent drives.

Re: My Western digital 1TB internal HDD

Somewhere around here is a description of an error that may be affecting you.

Basically SATA hard drives come in many flavours.  One of these flavours is SATA 150 or SATA 300. (SATA1 or SATA2) This basically refers to the data transfer rate 1.5 Gbps or 3.0 Gbps.

Now, some SATA 2 HDD are auto downgradable and the PS3 will recognise this but if my memory serves a WD 1TB does not auto-downgrade.  There should be some instructions, either here in techie support or google, about the correct jumper settings to apply to force the downgrade.

I'll have a search of the forum and post a link if I can find it.

Re: My Western digital 1TB internal HDD

It seems to locate into the SATA slots just fine. I may get some SATA extension leads and connect via them, that would then eliminate your suggestion McNeilio.

Thanks for speedy reply btw :smileyhappy:

Re: My Western digital 1TB internal HDD

Maybe 1 TB is more than the PS3 firmware can cope with. Have you tried formatting to a smaller size first?

Re: My Western digital 1TB internal HDD

I had this on my first 500gb drive rang sony they advised to reseat the drive, tried and still had it.

Wasn't all the time was like maybe 1 in 5 times I started the PS3 up.

To get rid of the error I would have to turn my PS3 of at the back and back on, then it would boot fine.

In the end got sick of it and bought a different drive and had no probs at all.

Defo a jumper and speed issue.

The HDD is too fast for the PS3 bootup.

Here's your jumper settings:
