New to Playstation Community & I have so many questions!!!

9 Replies 432 Views Created 19-11-2009

First off, Hi!!

I am currently a 360 gamer (Agent Bauer UK) yup boo hiss and so on....!!

Tomorrow I was thinking of getting a PS3 mainly for media purposes, but I have one or two questions to clear up any confusion.

So here we go...

The Playstation 3 has built in WiFi adaptor? Yes/No

It is free to play all games online? Yes/No

I can transfer files to my Playstations HDD? Yes/No

Yes what type AVI/MP3/IMAGES/MKV

The PS3 has AVI Playback capability? Yes/No

The PS3 has MKV Playback capability? Yes/No

You can stream media from your PC? Yes/No

You can playback using an external memory stick? Yes/No

I know that you can play BBC iPlayer on the PS3 are there any other sites you can watch? Yes/No

If Yes 4 On Demand/ITV Player/Other

I see that Facebook is coming to the PS3, are there any other features that you think I should look out for either now or in the future?

Can you get free Movies or Games as downloadable content?

I recently purchased an XBOX 360 Elite and I only get the standard Red, Yellow and White cables to connect to my TV (as you can guess, highly disapointed) do you get a HDMI cable or componant cable included?

Any media remotes?

Do the contollers require batteries? or is the battery built in?

If you could say in about 10 words why the PS3 is so amazing, what would them 10 words say?

I thank you all for your time, I haope to see you all again very soon!!!

TVERSITY?? Any plans for the future? Something built in?

The cable situation, would this be a Red, Yellow and White cable?

Does anyone else know of any other BBC iPlayer type sites?

Pirate Thom, Thanks BTW :smileyhappy:

The latest DivX player can play mkv's, an' I'm sure the PS3 uses the same tech, so just a matter of time I say.

EDIT: Oh, an' TVCatchUp is a decent freeview site, works on the PS3 browser too

TVERSITY?? Any plans for the future? Something built in? SCEE never tell us anything so your guess is as good as mine.

The cable situation, would this be a Red, Yellow and White cable? Yes, that's correct.

Does anyone else know of any other BBC iPlayer type sites? I'll have a scout for you to find any others that work within the browser. Curently updating to 3.10 so i'll check after :smileyhappy:

Re: New to Playstation Community & I have so many questions!!!

Some great answers there guys, Thanks for the time and effort!!!

I'm definatly going to have a trip in to York tomorrow!!

With the exception of the MKV (come on future!!) & Cables (invest in HDMI) the rest of it seems pretty cool and I'm looking forward to it.

One last thing, what is the new update? Just Facebook? or is there something else? It's all free right? You don't have to pay or anything?

Thanks again guys,

Robbo

Re: New to Playstation Community & I have so many questions!!!

New update seems to just be Facebook and browser improvements (and the ability to change the colour of your on screen trophy card), looking to see if there's any "hidden updates".

And, yeah, updates are all free.

All the updates are free, yes.

At the moment the only features we know of are:

The ability to link the PS3 up to Facebook to post game and trophy stats and store purchases.

And the ability to change the colour of your Profile ID so it's not so painfull on the eyes to you and others.

And the layout of the way you look at pictures is changed from a vertical view to a spread matrix view for easy viewing of more pictures at the same time.

Also Sony always put hidden things in there to find so no doubt tomorrow, people would have found more.

Hope this helps :smileyhappy:

Re: New to Playstation Community & I have so many questions!!!

My tip you is to buy Uncharted 2 with your PS3.

You will then no longer havy any thoughts of just using your PS3 just for media purposes lol

Re: New to Playstation Community & I have so many questions!!!

Welcome to the Playstation Community!!

I see a few people have already answered your questions. I just want to say that there's a few games that are worth getting for your PS3. Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Wipeout HD, Resistance 2 etc are all fantastic games.

Also, If you have a look through the forums, you'll also find community events to attend. They are brilliant and they are worth going too, especially to make new friends and have loads of fun :smileyhappy:
