Connecting your PS3 to PC speakers

[ Edited ]

1. Not sure what country you're from, but in the UK you can get most cables like this in a store called Maplin. So yes if you have store like that.

2. The reason you needed that adaptor is because both the PS3 lead and the lead that converts phono-to-3.5mm jack have 'Male' phono plugs. This adaptor allows the two sets of 'Male' plugs to connect together.

I'm not sure if the following will work, but off the top of my head I would try this -

In the settings of the PS3 go to "Sound Settings" you will need to turn on "Audio Multi-Output".

Use HDMI output for the video, then also using the lead that came with the PS3 (or a PS2 lead) for the audio -

Then you need to convert the red and white phono plugs to a 3.5mm jack socket.

with one these - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Euronetwork-phono-twin-coupler-Gold/dp/B000ENC1Z0/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&i...

and one of these - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Phono-3-5mm-Female-Audio-Cable/dp/B003WQ11I4/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF...

Not sure why only half of this thread got moved to the "PlayStation®3 Technical Solutions" board ( http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3-Technical/Re-PS3-sound-in-pc-speakers/m-p/15081... ), but think the above info should also go in it too.

Also wanted to add that me and ScooterBent finshed this thread over PM, and it all worked out fine and worked.

Hi again!

I've visited 3 different  shops and i found this one;

IMAG0087.jpg

I know i only need two holes, but they only had this one ;)

The other one... this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Phono-3-5mm-Female-Audio-Cable/dp/B003WQ11I4/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF...

is apparently rare, so ill check if i can find it on the internet from a danish site (im danish :P), or else i have to drive to another city :)

EDIT:

Okay i found these two:

http://www.av-cables.dk/div_kabler_bokse_stik/av_adapter/adapter/jack_adaptere/jack_stereo_hun_2_x_p...

http://www.av-cables.dk/lydkabler/phono_kabel/phono_adap_kabel/35mm_minijack_hun_2_x_rca_phono_han_1...

Do they both fit? ;)

Because i got unsure if the adapter i found is mini jack...

I have to say that is a brilliant diagram Chaos, its pretty tricky demonstrating the connection for this but you nailed it, nice one!

Big mistake if you ask me becasue you are wasting the potential of the system using the sub standard video output to get the yellwo red white going instead of your HD  output and enjoying your ps3 in High resolution.

Most HD tvs have all sorts of ins and outs and if it doesnt have a line out you probably have a headphone out so use that as your line out.

On your pc, if you are like me have  fancy pc game system with a fancy sourround sound system plugging into the soundcard or just the onboard sound card on your motherboard like most modern motherboards have. Wihtout a doubt sounds cards or onboard soundcards will have a line in.

So all you really needed was VERY simple cable you can find anywehre clincudling 99 cent stores. It looks like a normal headphone jack on both ends. From your HD tv line out or headphone jack if no line out, Run that to your pc sound card's IN, which will say LINE IN. If you dont hear it automatically on windows click the sound icon bottom right, recording devices and enable line in, or listen to this device. Now you have level controls for ps3 sound / lin ine input right on your task bar =) or use the volume on your tv and adjust there. Now you have HD ps3 resolution and a line to w.e sound sytem you wanted to use, in my case into my pc since my pc output is to fancy surround.

This is the best way, no fancy wire needed and you get to Use your HD output on ps3 for the best graphics, so dont settle for that low resolution output over this sound issue.
