I think it could make it clearer how widespread this is if it is all posted in one thread. There have been loads of cases that I've seen this week but (apologies if I'm wrong) there has been no response from Sony.
Mine: 60gb original. Played fine up until the update and for a couple of hours after it. Shut it down, started it up the next night and within 10 minutes it was dead. Now it won't turn it. It just bleeps and flashes the red light at me. PES2011 still stuck in the drive.
This is my problem.
'I gotta update!'
'Okay PS3, because I love you so much, I'm gonna let you update.'
'Say Cierra, you wanna play PSHome?'
'Yes, because I've already wasted money on it, I'm gonna play it.'
About two hours later.
'Er... Cierra, I have a problem.'
'I'm never gonna work again. I'm gonna stay on this black page forever.'
'I hate you PS3...'
'Fine, I'ma just shut myself doooown.'
So it'll let me turn it on, but won't let me do ANYTHING. So I'm not gonna touch it.
Yep mine died yetserday while playing la noire, it palyed great for a old system never had any problems and it just died without any kind of indication. I mean i had been playing it for a while on kz3 the switche off for a while and played noire the damn thing died and i got the ylod.
Should we wait till sony notices this and see if we can get any kind of break?
I was not even playing a game... I was just watching a movie when it happened. I think Sony just sabotaged my console to force me to buy a new one. Well screw you Sony. I am going to sue your buts for ruining a perfectly good device...just because you did not even bother testing your update on every generation on your PS3. Bunch of lazy sods. No way I am forking out money for an error that you have imposed on my device. I'm sending the repair bill over to you guys and you can pay for it. Bande de cons!
do you think they were under pressure to fix the holes in the network and pushed the patch too soon and didnt test it?
mine is the YLOD. its bricked. come on sony fix it!
They probably didn't properly test the firmware update, but sony and rockstar deny that the firmware or the game are the cause of the problems, but 1 of the other is, most probably the firmware I think, with alot of people's older machines going it seems to be the firmware a fix or an new firmware update is needed to fix this to stop it from happening again
It has nothing to do with LA Noire, that is just a coincidence. It *only* has something to do with the firmware. I do not have LA Noire and my PS3Slim is bricked even without playing anything it will shut down after a few seconds, sometimes it runs for a bit you launch ANYTHING, e.g. SingStar Viewer and it will shut down again. The 3.61 firmware is bricking PS3s of all generations and all models across all configurations randomly.
All right, it looks like I'm the next to publicly announce they're joining this wonderful YLOD problem after the firmware update. I don't play games on my PS3, but my 40GB has been going strong for disc-based movies and streaming all week until about 30 minutes ago. I was browsing Hulu Plus and then just like some evil black magic, the unit shut off with the red flashing light. It's still flashing at me as I type this... taunting me. What a bunch of crap!
Mine (Original 60gb model), has just done the same while playing on medal of honor. It just shut down, beeped 3 times and wont come back on. I also noticed that there is a little white plastic thing in the front centre of my disk drive that is preventing me from inserting/removing my games!
I'm gonna ring Sony tomorrow as i am still a Continuous Play subscriber,(they Honoured my contract after it was stopped for people abusing it) and find out what the problem is!
I think that mine is fixing itself... I am now doing a full factory restore, and it hasn't turned off yet. *touch wood*
It seems like I'm having the same problems, I did the update after the whole security breach thing. I put on a DVD and about an hour in it started to judder, the PS3 turned off. I got it to turn back on to get the disk out. then I put a game in to see if it was the DVD disk that was causing the problem. Now the PS3 wont turn on long enough to eject the disk.
My 60gb original has never let me down, until yesterday afternoon, midway through a CoD session.
YLOD... :-( Updated it last week, played it once on Thursday - was ok, played for about 15mins on Sunday before it died.
My system died.. has never had a problem in all the years i had it. now it dies. Surely this isnt coincidence?
Sony has something to answer for.
Can we contact anyone about this? Is there an email that I can contact them on. They cant put me on hold then :)
Same here, 60gb never had any problems, well ventilated and dusted.
Updated and played for around an hour, noticed it was very very hot.
Next day played for around five mins, console turned itself off then red light flashes,
Luckily i bought a fan mod which has allowed me to play at the moment, helping keep it cool.
Something in this update seems to affect the fan speeds, thus causing overheat,
Will also contact watchdog,

60GB BC PS3 that I've had since October 2007. It has never really failed me other than the odd freeze with LBP or whatever. I hadn't been playing it much recently since I was busy with uni work and whatnot, but I finished up the year and came back home on the 14th, a day before the update. I started playing it more, mostly FFXIII and LBP 2 on my folks' new HDTV (and it looks sweeeeet) and had no problems. LA Noire was posted on the Thursday and I played it for about 4 hours, I died during a case, restarted, the game froze during a cutscene and my PS3 turned off. I didn't think much of it at the time, but come the next day I tried to turn it on and it flashes yellow and turns straight off. So yeah, YLOD, it's dead.
It took me by surprise though. My PS3 has always been fine, it had plenty of space, itself and the weather weren't particularly that warm and the fans weren't going into overdrive...But it died on me. I don't know whether it's 3.61's fault, LA Noire's fault, a mixture of the two or if my PS3's time was coming anyway.
I personally just wanna get my disc out and buy a new PS3 Slim but despite the fact that I'm 20 and can live my own life, my folks are pretty adamant about me NOT getting a new one but instead seeing about getting it repaired. I'm not particularly keen on the idea, but what about you guys?
Playstation contact email address firstname.lastname@example.org and technical support helpline 0844 736 0595 be prepared for a long wait on the phone. When you phone be prepared for a long wait and and a very annoying autonated message!!
yep, was on hold for 30 mins, got disconnected. called again, got disconnected right away saying there were too many calls.... figures. Wrote an email, got an autoresponder back saying that they are "very busy" and that I have to wait and thank me for my patience! No kidding!
Have now complained to Watchdog and Consumer Direct lets see where that gets me. Sonys customer services stinks :Help: :Stupid: Sony
