When I bought my PS3 I was told that I can use any Fat32 external HDD with my PS3 12GB to increase storage. Now when I connect my external 500 GB USB HDD the PS3 recognises the device but I don't know how to use it to install new games in it. The 12 GB flash memory is already full.
I need to know how do I use my external USB HDD with my PS3 super slim?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi sugardiemen,
You can't use an external HDD to store games on, it can only be used for other media such as films, music etc.
Game data can only be stored on an internal HDD as the Game is designed for the format of an internal PS3 HDD which is not FAT32, it is secific to PS3.
You can copy saved data onto the HDD for back up, but the games themselves cannot be stored or run of the external HDD.

So does that mean game saves also cannot be saved onto an external hard drive? If I have an external hard drive I want to play more games (currently it says not enough space on HDD), is that possible?
Otherwise you can't play any more games once the internal is full. Or can you buy new internal HDDs?
You can buy larger internal HDDs.
So if i put an external HDD on my ps3 , and put a new game ive never played b4 in and the game tells me it needs to store its self on the storage device b4 i can play it , i can not do this on the external as the game will still not run even with the game still in the system ???
I dont want to back games up to it , i just want to play games.
I have the new super slim 12g ps3 with 21 games this whole set up cost me a fortune , i set it up for the kids and they played i think 2 games then said they wanted to change game , so i poped in the game and tried to run it but got the message saying system storage to low , i can not even run the playstationstore as it again says memory lower than 500mb i take a look at sytem info and i have only 62mb free.
I just want to be able to get the games to run.
can i downloand and save games that i bought on PSN store?
I'm fairly aggravated at the fact that I can't play more than three or four games...I moved all of my Saved Game files over to a 1TB external hard drive and still have no room...Is the short answer to this problem having to delete Game Utility Data every time I play a new game? I'm not an avid gamer and rarely finish a game before I become bored with it. I would enjoy being able to play numerous games without having to delete other data just to play them. Will this effect my saved games?
Just install a new HDD there rather cheap.
I just put a 320gb HDD up for sale for a tenner on ebay and there's loads about the same price just buy one
Thanks...I will definitely look in to this! Looks like I wound up with an extra external hard drive..
Pls.. help me in this problem..... Well my USB is not working to my PS3 Super Slim I try to fix my USB but still can't .
:(
Hey peeps .
So I bought infamous 2 off the PS store which is 14GB
not knowing the slim is only 12GB.
It won't allow me to download it as there is not enough storage .
What options do i have ??
Or how can I get more storage so that I can play it ????
I have a 12gb ps3 super slim and i inserted 1tb internal hdd in my ps3. But when i open the system the storage in use is still the flash memory. What should i do now.
