Go to display settings and let it "Auto-detect"

It should go to the highest HD res available and ask if its ok, it will also ask the TV size.

you MUST do that for it to recognise the 3D TV before it will work.

Then when you start Wipeout HD it should ask if you want to play in HD.

im having similar problems but that auto detect doesn't work. i keep getting no signal.

normal blu ray i can play in 1080hd but when i put a 3d blu ray in the ps3, it says that it can not be played.

my tv has latest firmware, so does the ps3.

what else could be the problem?

the tv is a ue46D6200 Led 3d from samsung.

The BR disc won't play at all or it won't output in 3D?

Perhaps it's a parental setting issue or something?

Weird, mine auto-detected that I had changed the display.

Automatically asks if I want to enable 3D mode when I boot up Wipeout or SSHD etc too.

yes, i did, can't even remember how many times i tried it over and over again.

the ps3 recognized 1080i but not the 1080p.

this means i can game in the 720p and watch a regular Bluray in 1080i, but when i put in a 3d bluray, i still get the same message.

the guys from samsung think its the ps3, and the ps3 people, will say its the tv.

either way, i can't use the ps3 for 3d, (who i bought to vieuw 3d movies) only to game.

Sony are stabbing their loyal family customers in the back - We have 3 PS3s and 3 PSPs all on the same IP address and all registered with Sony. Why can't we use them at the same time anymore?

Yep, but that's what he wants to do.

I really have no idea, at a guess it's the TV as we all have the same FW and this is the first time I've heard of this problem.

I'd try a different HDMI cable on the off-chance and if that didn't work I'd take the set back.

The only other thing I can think of is that the tv is only HD ready, as in 1080i/720p and not full 1080p?
Unlikely but it would explain whats happening.

Ah I see silly me.

Could be an early HDMI lead that does not support 1080p or 3D

Some one posted the other week about a simular problem but turned out his HDMI lead was not up to scracth

Long shot: Have you connected your PS3 to the TV via a HDMI switch of some kind?

HDMI switches need to handle HDMI 1.4 in order for it to pass on the 3D data properly.

HDMI 1.3b is sufficient as that is what the ps3 out puts at

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the standard stipulate that sinks present their capabilities to sources, which means the PS3 needs to recognize that the sink handles 1.4 (which it won't, if there's the switch is only 1.3 capable)? It's been a few months since I had reason to look in the docs, but I believe that the protocol is defined that way.

My PS3 runs 3D fine with 1.3b and many on here only use 1,3b

Though my newer 3D blu-ray player needs 1.4

As for the swicth no idea as I do not use one so had no need to look into it.

I don't get it. I was taking about HDMI switches; you said it doesn't matter if the switch is 1.3, and now it seems you're saying you don't know? If this was an evil attempt to confuse me, it was successful.

*bing* "You have received a bronze trophy: zinep confused"

Anywho, the standard seems to indicate that repeaters should be transparent with regards to capabilities (if all switches fall under this category, I don't know). However, in the store where I bought my 3D TV they first tried to connect one of their 3D TV's through a HDMI 1.3 switch, but it wouldn't pass the 3D signal on, so they installed a HDMI switch which was 1.4 capable, and it worked. Could this possibly affect only "intelligent" switches (which handle upscaling and such)? I don't know. Regardless, this is why I asked if a HDMI switch was involved.
