Dark Images are TOO DARK

Hello all.

A couple of months ago, I baught a new TV solely for gaming, it's one of thes

http://www.awe-europe.com/product_description.asp?idProduct=1218

I'm not sure if it's due to the high contrast ratio (2,000,000 : 1) or not, but playing in games that have darknesses in (GT5 races at night, Battlefiled BC 2 when in a house) the dark areas are just black.

Indeed, the night races in GT5 I can see litterally nothing unless it's directly under a street light, and in BFBC2, if in a house I can't get out since I can see nothing - at all!

I've changed the contrast in game and on the TV which improves it but still, in the darkest areas it's no different. If I increase the brightness, the 'bright' areas are too bright (eye piercing)

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Thanks.

Hello Welsh friend

It's likely you have the PS3 set to Full RGB in the display settings and your tellybox doesn't support it leading to crushed blacks. Try switching it to limited.

This is why he has an MVP.

Spot on. I had the same issues on a Panasonic TV with this enabled. Even though it says it supports it, I find it looks much better on Limited.

I had a similar issue with my Samsung when in Game mode, it wasn't as bad as your sounds but black areas were really black so I turned up the cell lighting and now it looks great. Might look at the suggestions here though because the Plazma has a buzz with the cell lighting turned up :/

There was a guide with patterns that you could test to see if your TV can handle this.

But i lost the Bookmark!!

I know i have mine set to Full on my Bravia, but, i am contemplating going back to Limited, as when it comes to Online gaming the brighter it is in dark places the more advantage you have, haha.

Anyone know anything on Super White?

I just found this video...

and apparently if you can clearly see the bars representing 17-25 flashing when FULL RGB is on, then it should be ok.

Pop it on a USB Stick to play it.

Mine was ok, but for some reason my Control for HDMI has stopped working today :smileymad:

Guys, I changed the RGB to "Limited" and it didn't make much difference, disabling "HDMI Deep Colour" did.

All sorted, thanks all.

Very much indeed!
