My PS3 is stuck in a continuos trying to update System Software Loop. Can anyone help? (8002F14E)

39 Replies 14,921 Views Created 07-11-2008

Hi,

Basically my PS3 crashed during the update of system software 2.52 and when I turn it back on it tries to install again but gets to 3% and comes up with an error message saying "An error occured during the update operation, contact technical support for assistance. (8002F14E)" This happens evertime without fail except once when it got to 99% and just got stuck. I've tried lots of things including, holding down the on button till it bleeps once when turning on, putting the update file on a memory stick and plugging it in when it tries to update, using my mate's HDD in it, and there was also something about holding the button down for 10 seconds when you turn it on and this apparently resets the PS3 to Default Settings and the previous firmware but all it did for me was turn on then turn off again... So basically has anyone had this problem before and did they overcome it? If so how? and does anyone have any other ideas?!

Thanks

You will have to contact Sony to arrange a replacement I'm afraid. The number is 08705 99 88 77.

You shouldn't have to pay if a fw update bricked your PS3. Argue with them that you were forced to update to get online and it broke your PS3.

If that fails, get yourself Contiuous Play for £5 a month then you are guaranteed a like for like replacement but I really would force the issue that a Sony update bricked your PS3.

Didn't they add a sort of 'Firmware rollback' option 2.50 or 2.51 as a way of dealing with this very problem?

I'll try to find the link on PS3 Fanboy

Well can it be done if when I turn it on it goes straight to the installing process? There is literally nothing I can do except watch it get to 3% and fail, the controller doesn't even connect.

You hold the power button down at start up, so it's a bit like holding 'Del' or tapping F8 on a PC to access the BIOS or Windows safe mode.

Switch of the power via the switch on the back of the PS3.

Turn the power back on via the switch.

With the PS3 still off (Stand by) press and hold the power button,

Are you doing it in standby mode (red light on)? Then hold power button and wait for beeps?

To be honest you may as well keep trying as you're not going to get through to Sony (Or get a refurb) this side of the weekend. Keep having a go at this hidden menu technique for the weekend but if your PS3's still knackered on Monday call Sony again and see if you can get the free replacement.

I've a feeling the guy who told you £200 was a bored call centre pleb with Friday afternoon-itis
