PS3 to Monitor (DVI) - no image?

Hey,

I just bought a new PS3 Super Slim 500GB, September 2012 release. I hooked it up to my Full HD 1080p monitor (Philips 226V3LSB LCD LED 21.5" DVI) that only has DVI output. I used HDMI-DVI cable, no adapter. However, there is no image - only the "snow" effect.

As I understand, there is a signal, because as soon as I plug the cable into PS3, the black screen on the monitor changes into a "snow" effect. Also, when I turn off my PS3, the monitor goes to sleep too.

I've tried reseting my PS3 by holding down the power button for 10s until the second beep and also mocking around with monitor's settings - none of this helped the case. Unfortunately, I don't have a TV where I would be able to test the PS3 out and I bought it online so I can't bring it back to them just for the test.

I've seen that A LOT of people have problems hooking up PS3 to their monitors, but I've never seen anyone getting the "snow" effect; most of the time it's just a "no signal" problem.

I'm guessing the PS3 might be faulty then, even if it's new? Or is there anything else that could be wrong?

The cable and the monitor are in a perfect working order, as I use both of them by connecting my laptop to the monitor.

Thanks!

Wut.

I thought it might be because the monitor isn't HDCP compliant OP, but according to the specs it is. I'm not really sure what to suggest I'm afraid.

You can use it, as I do it when the gf is on main telly.
The problem occurs because the ps3 is fairly stupid and has to be told you want to view in HD (if you werent) I think (but am not 100%) I fixed it by holding down the power button till it beeped, then when i turned it on it asked if I wanted these settings. but if you have tried this and doesnt work, then i am all outta ideas, as it should work

If PS3's weren't designed for pc monitors, then why can both of my PS3's work on my monitor. When i bought my new monitor, i made sure it had an HDMI port and was DHCP compliant. and i can also play the relevent games in 3D as well.

Sony are stabbing their loyal family customers in the back - We have 3 PS3s and 3 PSPs all on the same IP address and all registered with Sony. Why can't we use them at the same time anymore?

You usually only get static when you're using an analogue tuner. Are you sure you've got the DVI selected?

I am always connecting my monitor from my computer to my PS3 to my TV and so on... I can't say I have the answer for you but for instance when I got Skyrim, I got the snow effect.  When I followed some of playstations Safe Mode proceedures, basically have your cables all hooked up, just hold the PS3 power button until it comes on/ hear it beep, then keep holding it (10 seconds) and then it automatically depending on exactly what you have, cables etc. (I didn't check out your specs) it auto formatted and then I just had to tweak mainly the game options, but did fiddle around with some settings and things.... bottom line the auto format is what ended up solving the issue, I got my game running, no lag, no more white/snow...  I don't know if this helps but hey I was on here trying to solve an issue of my own and thought I would give you my two sense...GOOD LUCK...and I am sure you have figured something out but they do have instructions on SAFE startup mode...

safe mode link_ http://faq.en.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4545

Safe mode startup procedure

① Verify that the power indicator on the PS3 system is solid red, and then turn off the MAIN POWER switch.
② Turn on the MAIN POWER switch, then touch and hold the power button.
③ Keep touching the power button even after you hear a short beep after 5 seconds.
④ After 10 seconds, you will hear another short beep and the system will shut down (release the button at this point).
⑤ Touch and hold the power button again.
⑥ Continue touching the power button even after you hear a short beep after 5 seconds.
⑦ Release the button when two short beeps are emitted after 7 seconds.
⑧ As instructed by the on-screen message, press the PS button to start up in safe mode.

IF anyone does this make sure you double check to understand what is wrong with your PS3 first, because Safe mode can erase data and PSN accounts temporarily...Anyway hope you have solved it by now anyway.
