Think about it logically, how are you going to be able to download something when the console is OFFLINE?
What the PS3 can do is download a game, demo or suchlike and then shut itself down when the download is complete.
Start a download or list of several downloads then scroll to the left of the XMB to where the profile log ins are, move up to the shut down option and click 'X' and you'll see a little tick box which is for the console to shut down and install all downloads after the download is completed
is there any way to download games while the ps3 is off? i was downloading a demo turned off the console and it hadn't changed in %
I don't mean to be rude - But are you Stupid ? .
It clearly tells you NOT to switch off while downloading or updating .
& You're the same guy asking why your PS3 is making strange loud noises while playing & loading Discs. (can't imagine what may be causing that )
I'd guess you're doing your HDD a world of good in so many ways.
TRY throwing water in the Disc Slot , see if that helps.

It was a silly question but doesn't need ten posts taking the mick!
OP, Just no. The only option you have is to go to 'Turn off system' and it will say, do you want to download items 1st and then switch off. At which point, press Yes, leave it downloading. Turn you TV off. Leave the PS3 on. Then when all downloads complete the PS3 will turn itself off.
Alternatively I believe PS Plus has an auto download option to do downloads at a certain hour. Not sure if that it just updates or demos as well.
im not saying my console is making weird noises... also i mean is there a way to get the ps3 to do what the xbox does where you turn it off and its on standby or whatever downloading something then when the download finishes the console turns off?
and i dont see a tick box to turn the console off after downloads.
