As long as its formatted to FAT32, then yes. If it isn't FAT32 already, you can just format it yourself :smileyhappy:
Im not sure if it will come formatted as FAT32. They usually don't say, but it will either be FAT32 or NTFS.
If you buy it, connect it to the PS3. If it is detected, you're good to go. If not, you will need to attach it to a PC.
I have a youtube video you might find helpful. A link to the software needed to format the drive is provided in the video description.
Edit. ah, nvm. You said external. I ought to read a bit more careful :smileyvery-happy:
thanks everyone and to afccarl1994 for showing me how to format it i will be buying it tomorrow or monday is 59.99 a good price for a 1tb
It is at the moment as HDD prices are sky rocketing after the floods in Thailand
When shopping you will find some drives formatted for Windows and some for Apple/Not Windows.
That means Windows formatted is NTFS, other will be FAT32.
Note FAT32 only supports disk files up to about 3.3GB (I can't remember actual size). Windows can happily read FAT32 and NTFS, but you can't copy large files (> 3.3GB) from your Windows PC to the external FAT32 drive.
@jamie The file size limit is 4GB. PS3 NEEDS it to be FAT32, so its disadvantages compared to other FS is irrelevent.
I would by it as quick as you can at that price, as posted above prices have been going up a lot lately.
the bag of sh*t is still not formatting iv tried that site suggested above but it will not format it and when i format it on swissknife it only has 393gb after formatting i do not know what to do now. Can someone please give me simple step by step instructions from the start on how they formatted theirs with all disk space at end. thank you
Are you talking about the standard/free version of swissknife? Could be wrong but I think that is limited to formatting hard drives up to 500GB in size. The premium version apparently formats drives up to 2GB but I don't know if it would be worth the costs.
Disk management should suffice really. What OS do you have?
what does OS mean mate. at the moment im on a program called EASEUS partition master home edition. and the bit where your disk are at the bottom which is disk 3 in this case there is 1 short line which is filled with purple and it says F(FAT32) 393.20GB at the right of the purple line is a long line which says unallocated 1004.06GB does anyone know what i do here please
Ok I think you're gonna have to go back to square 1 and reformat back to NTFS using the easeus. When done disconnect the hard drive. Reboot and reconnect. Start up easeus then select the option format to fat32. I'm told that it will work with this software.
when i choose to resize the partition to 1.36tb and try to format it it just pending operations resize partition
format partition its
^^ I can't quite follow what you're saying. Are you trying to resize the partition? I don't have this software so I'm kinda trying to navigate easeus' site. :smileywink:
Apparently resize can be down with fat 32. Just scroll down to solution 2:
