Re: Dedicated servers?

Nothing has been confirmed for PS4 yet.

Most people expect them to eliminate all lag in within the game, however this is not the case. Im happy with P2P for a game where i only usually play 4v4.

Re: Dedicated servers?

All Xbox One games will have dedicated servers it's built into Xbox Live for cheap / free Activision won't spend money purchasing servers and I don't think Sony will

Re: Dedicated servers?

The thing is do you really need dedicated servers for every game?
I think not...
I'm happy BF4 and KZ will have them, although I'm only assuming its safe to knowing this gen has them...

Re: Dedicated servers?

Wasn't it rumoured most of these servers were virtual ones anyway?

Also the cost for every single game to have dedicated servers :smileysurprised:

I was on about the 300,000 servers microsoft said they had, i read a rumour a couple of weeks ago that alot of these were virtual servers.

As for COD i agree, games with up to 18 players are fine with P2P gaming anyway. Anything above 32 Players and Dedicated servers are needed.

That isn't actually what Microsoft said. What they actually said was that all 'game developers developers have access to using Microsofts Azure cloud servers'. They did not actually say that all games will have them and that they are free to use for all third parties. It is my understanding that if developers and third parties want to use the Azure servers they have to pay for them. I'm not even sure they can go to any other external providers either. I think it's Azure or nothing on Xbox Live. Not sure if the pricing is competitive, and it might be subsidised by Live, but it's certainly not an 'ALL games' situation or a 'free servers' situation.

As to wether Sony are offering similar? Well they have made a deal with an industry leader server company actally that specialise in closed network servers and have some pretty impressive credentials. Rackspace. What for we aren't quite sure, but we do know it is PSN related. So I'd guess they are at least significantly beefing up their infrastructure for something. It might be Gaikai, PSN or Sony's own first party game servers. But it does seem either way that this time around they're a bit more serious about their online infrastructure.

Wiki page on Black Ops II

"Within 24 hours of going on sale, the game grossed over $500 million, beating 2011's Modern Warfare 3 to become the biggest entertainment launch of all time.[11] It went on to sell 7.5 million copies in the U.S. in November 2012, making it the highest grossing game of the month."

"The title grossed more than $800 million globally in its first five days of availability, exceeding the $775 million record set by 2011's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the $650 million set by 2010's Black Ops and the $550 million one achieved by 2009's Modern Warfare 2. To be exact, it has beaten theatrical box office, book, and video game sales records for five-day worldwide sell-through in dollars.[citation needed]

Black Ops II went on to gross $1 billion in the first 15 days of availability, beating Modern Warfare 3's record of the first 16 days.[83]"

Jesus, Call of Duty is dying? I wish my business ventures would die like that.

COD is in decline according to most sites BLOPS 2 sold the fastest and more in it's first few week, but it's overall sales are down 20% on the original Black Ops and 15% on MW3. Even though it's sold loads that's a huge drop-off in two years.
