Wireless connection problem (WPA technical problem)

29 Replies 840 Views Created 20-02-2009
Hello, I am having trouble with connecting my Ps3 to my wireless modem. We recently changed our wireless modem and I have attempted several time to connect it with my ps3 and failed. However, when I removed the WPA from my wireless modem I was able to connect with the modem. The problem is that I cannot establish a connection when I add a WPA to the modem.
Our previous modem was able to connect with the ps3 with a WPA. So I am unaware to what is causing the problem.
I have tried to browse through your help & support FAQs and was unable to find anything that is related to this problem.
as soon as I enter in the WPA key in the network settings this message pops up.
A connection to the access poin could no be established.
Check the secruity settings for the wireless LAN (8013013E)
help please

Try restoring the default settings to the router, then entering the router setup via 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 etc. Enable WPA-PSK and enter a random key then apply the changes, the router should reboot, try entering the new info in the ps3 then.

Humm, it should work if they key is correct? Are you entering the security key on the ps3 with the joypad? If so are you pressing 'start' to enter it? If that's the case, it normally adds an extra space, that might be why.

How much distance is between the router and PS3? If it's literally right next to it while you are setting it up try connecting again but have 2 feet + distance between the two?

what PS connection method are you using to find/connect to the SSID? Manual/Auto/Scan?

Is your router on the latest firmware ? (I had a Netgear that had old firmware which had a bug that meant only WEP encryption would work)

Have you got Access Control on ?

Doesn't mean that the firmware is updated to the latest =) I'm using a customized firmware from DGTeam (HERE)

Hello, I just noticed this thread and I am having the same problem... I recently changed to a Netgear modem and when I try and connect to it there is an error message at the bottom of the screen that says, "The key information exchange has timed out."

Oh and I am using Auto I.P. Address and Scanned my modem.

It's more that 2 feet... lol I actually measured it.

I used a scan since it is the closest router to the ps3

Try adding your PS3's MAC address to the routers access control list.

Even if I did do that, the ps3 would still need to get through the WPA before the router access control list. Putting an access control list won't change the problem XD

No, it has to get through the Access Control List before it can attempt to connect using a password. This is designed to stop Brute force, Dictionary and DoS attacks.

If you're using a lappy, it's normally on the bottom on 1 of the stickers. Same with PS3, at least mine was.

Then again if you can't see it on your computer, try this:-

  1. Click start.
  2. Type in 'cmd' without the 's
  3. Type ipconfig /all
  4. Locate the device your computer uses to connect to the net, there should be a heading underneathe called 'Physical address'
  5. Note the number down and enter it.
