In the coming weeks Arsenal and Sony will bring to supporters a world first – a video stream of match content direct to fans’ Sony Playstation Portable(PSP) and PSP Go at their seats during Barclays Premier League games. Available to download via Arsenal.com, the service - built upon Sony Professional’s revolutionary technology - will provide a new interactive application to compliment watching Arsenal play live at Emirates Stadium.

Available for a one-off fee of £10 for the remainder of the 2009/2010 season, the application will offer supporters action replays from selected camera angles, plus slow-motion options, live match statistics, team sheets and Arsenal player profiles and pre-match video content and Arsenal.com editorial news. Fans will also be able to vote for their man of the match within the Arsenal TV Matchday + user base, access the League table and live scores and results from other fixtures.

Thanks to technology advancements, the incredible level of entertainment offered before, during and after games means we remain the ultimate football venue.”

Our work with Arsenal is truly a world first and we believe that it will set the standard for live event experiences.” 

 After downloading the Arsenal TV Matchday + application to their PSP supporters will automatically be able to access a secure, hidden Wi-Fi network which will then stream the images direct to the device. Access to games being played in the 2010/2011 season will go on sale during the close season.   

This unique technology has been trialed and developed extensively by Sony in partnership with Arsenal over the last two years using fans and focus groups to develop it for wider use. Whilst Emirates Stadium is the first sporting venue to install the system it is hoped that others will follow suit in the near future.

Besides publicity, not sure if I see the benefit for either party in this.

I can see the postitives to it, Emirates is a big stadium, sometimes you're just at the wrong angle to see the goal efficiently, i could imagine everyone sitting around you gathering over to see the replays, that is if they don't show replays on a big screen like Wembley does and you always wonder what other teams are doing, hows its effecting the table, so I think its a good move forward even though I think you'd look silly holding and looking at a psp during the match, it's prob more suited to some of the smaller clubs too, but I reckon its a good idea, if I was a season ticket holder there, I'd pay for it, it seems reasonably priced!

Fair price for something that's handy if you can't see much of the action, the Emirates is a large stadium after all. Think I'd rather stick to watching Sky to see my favourite team though, I live much too far away to see regular matches there.
