Demise of the Official PSP Magazine

So, the Official PSP Magazine is no more and it seems to have disappeared with a whimper.  I haven't noticed anyone mourning it on the internet, which is a shame because it was quite good.  However it seemed symptomatic of Sony's half baked attempts at promotion of the console outside Japan and now we have nothing!

Not enough people bought it which I think is a bit ominous about the popularity of the PSP.

All this in the supposed year of the PSP.

Where do we go now for the latest PSP only news?

Re: Demise of the Official PSP Magazine

I was going to post something similar but was trying to confirm if it was just delayed rather than totally dropped. A Borders in London didn't have it on their records any more, but still has the last issue on its shelves, and I was keeping an eye on my local shops (Liverpool way).

It's a shame because it did feel to be something special, if that is quite the word. A magazine devoted to the PSP, the much underated bit of technology I use so much. And though the reviews were never usually in time for releases, it was good to read through knowing that someone has put effort into creating and publishing a PSP-centered mag. So I am gutted for its demise, especially with the other Playstation mags which claim to cover all shunting the PSP to one side in favour of the big brother PS3. But I can't say I am surprised - PSP owners really seem to be fickle when it comes to supporting and buying PSP stuff - most people I know who have one have gone the route of homebrew, something I deplore since it doesn't help our friendly little console one bit and for the uses they put it to - essentially stealing from people's hard work and effort. We are living in generation selfish, where people don't want to pay for other people's goods but want £££ when they do something themselves.

As I said, gutted.

Re: Demise of the Official PSP Magazine

Maybe OPM (Official Playstation Magazine) will increase its coverage of PSP news and reviews in the future? Past coverage may have been limited by Sony to allow the PSP magazine to sell.

But if it has indeed been cancelled, I reckon OPM will pick up the slack with a dedicated PSP section in the future. That's what I'd like to see anyway.

Re: Demise of the Official PSP Magazine

Well said Tim.  I have always supported the PSP's official products and find homebrew a bit scary.  But I'll say it again - I just don't think Sony push the PSP hard enough outside Japan.  Everything just seems to be halfhearted when it comes to publicity.

It's a brilliant piece of kit and I don't think it's fulfilling even 50% of its true potential.

And I truly miss the magazine - it was good reading as well as a good reference booklet.

Shame on you Sony - you should have supported it more - some freebies would have been nice, but you just don't care enough do you?

Re: Demise of the Official PSP Magazine

I thought they merged it with the PS3 magazine to reduce publication costs?

Re: Demise of the Official PSP Magazine

I spoke to a friend of mine the other day who works for Future Publications about it and he said that it had been discontinued due to lack of sales.

I was really upset about it because in this months issue there was going to be a feature on Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.

Re: Demise of the Official PSP Magazine

heh yet another reward from sony to their loyal fans...

i was wondering why my subscription just seemed to disapeer...

lets face it folks sony is pulling out, it obviously couldnt give a rat's hind quarters for its western audiance.

and for its psp audiance in particular i think sonys attitude is... $^%$ you buy a ps3.

sure sony, i would love to throw obscene amounts of cash at a company that spits on me and treats me like a s%$&.

The playstation magazines aren't run by Sony before you go jumping on the Sony-Hate-Train.

Re: Demise of the Official PSP Magazine

yeah i know but they sure arnt supported by sony either....

anyways i have first class seats on the sony hate train! ;p

i love my psp though, which is why i get so waspy over the lack of (western) support for what is obviously an amazing machine, and it irks me that so much of the existing psps (1000-3000) are seemingly being junked without even scratching the surface of the potential of these lovely machines...

Re: Demise of the Official PSP Magazine

Hi everyone, first time posting and its really sad as I only found this forum trying to find out what on earth happened to the official psp magazine..

Are they serious?

Did they really have to wait until the psp is finally on the up to discontinue the magazine?

At first I thought they're just delaying it because just when they were about to go on print they found out there's a *****storm of new good quality titles being announced (motorstorm, little big planet, rock band, silent hill, soul calibur, tekken, jak and daxter, colin mcrae..) which they had to have something about..

Then I read at gamesradar.com that the mag is going online, they had a link to a webpage where you were prompted to register for the newsletter..

Then..well, nothing!

Anyone knows anything about this online business?
