I´m english living in spain...amazing but true

Apologies i don´t mean to start off so sarcastically but this has been bugging me ever since I signed up to download psp content on media go.

I´m english but i´m living in spain. I´d like to use the psp and its content to support my childs onward development of his english. However it appears impossible for me to have an account in english with Spain as my location. Having selected Spain the only language option is Spanish. This is clearly very shortsighted.

I thought of lying and using my parents adress in the UK for the account but not only do i not like lying, I wouldn´t be able to use my credit card because every ´location´field in my account would be fixed to the UK including my credit card address , as it is currently fixed to spain and the language fixed to spanish and is now unchangeable.

I bought Abes oddysee which is now in spanish, no matter what language i set the psp to. Ideally i´d like the whole account in english and to be guaranteed to have the downloaded content(comics films etc) in english.

´m not going to buy anything else until I get get this sorted. It seems a bit mad in our multiculrural world that this isn´t easily implemented.

Please help

Thanks

Giles

Re: I´m english living in spain...amazing but true

Can't you change the language to English in the system settings?

I wish I could be more help but I haven't touched my PSP since the Vita came out and I never ran into this kind of issue. Even though the PSN network stuff will be in Spanish I'm pretty sure you can change the system language to anything you want.

Hi,

The PSP itself has been set to English. Its just this game plays in spanish. I ddn't see any option when I downloaded it, and there's no in-game option to change it, so my assumption is that the game version was autoselected based on my account settings.

If it's just this one game I can live with it, but I really want english games for my son. Of course I can buy him english books :smileyhappy: but its more about the immersion. We do everything at home in english and i'd like his psp games/comics the same.

I was hoping that some sony staff used this forum and might give me a definitive answer but thanks very much for the reply. If I don't hear from them I'll have to hunt for an actual customer support email or phone number......hehe wish me luck with that!!

Thx again

Hey, sorry you've been having problems.

The language setting of the PSP System only affect the Media Bar Language I'm afraid.

Almost all games with language options will offer you a choice when starting the game. Because of the Size restraints of a PSP UMD games, and so that games aren't enormous downloads, not every language is included on the game. Unfortunately, it comes down to the game developers to decide upon the languages included.

In general, developers will provide the game in the language/s that the majority of users in the region speak. If you wish to have alternative language variations then you will need to purchase from alternative regions. Unfortunately I should probably also say that it is against the Terms and Conditions of SEN to create accounts in regions you don't reside in, (however there's nothing to stop you...)

In order to guarantee all content is in english, you would need to set the PSP language to English and create a UK PSN ID. Any UMD's purchased in Spain though would still play in Spanish though as there's nothing you can do about that.

As for comics, the service is being discontinued soon, so grab as many as you can before it goes! :smileywink:

Re: I´m english living in spain...amazing but true

Hi,

Thanks for your clear answer. It makes sense and yesterday I downloaded a pile of demos to see what would happen with those. Every single one offered me a choice of languages when I first ran the game, so that's fine. I hope the full versions arn't too big and then have the languages limited to reduce the size as you suggested. At least I'm lucky that if the languages offered was limited, english would almost certainly be one of them.

it's odd that Abes oddysee's developers offered none at all. I'll have to hope that doesn't happen too often.

I will be buying any UMD's second hand from ebay/amazon I think, so I can get english versions. As for comics it seems that they're simply not available on the spanish system at all. As soon as I log in the choice offered by Media go changes from Games/comics to games/videos. There's a geronimo stilton one I'd love to grab. Nevermind.

Thanks again.

Re: I´m english living in spain...amazing but true

Hey.

I am also English and living in Spain and the languages can be a pain in the bum. I haven't got a PSP but I have both my Vita and PS3 system in English. Most games automatically change to this unless it hasn't got English included on it, like Call of Duty is always in Spanish yet games like FIFA and Gran Turismo 5 are in English, sometimes it gets even worse with Burnout changing to French if my system is in English causing me to turn the system language to Spanish lol
