In all fairness, I don't think all of that criticism should be levelled at Sony. As far as I know, the software houses themselves set the prices for their software, not Sony.
I would guess that Sony could reduce the charges for putting software on the store (I am assuming there is one, probably as a %), by a small degree, but ultimately, I think the producers of the software are responsible for the price, and it's availability.
I think the problem is, if Sony came down hard, forcing the hand of the companies in terms of prices and availability, they software houses could just walk away. It needs to be a partnership.

If that's true why is it generally more expensive on the PS Store?
Either the retailers (online and offline) are taking a bigger hit on the games than Sony, despite the fact that they have to deal with the shipping costs of material goods which Sony don't...
Or, the developers are charging more to Sony to sell the games onwards to users if they are sold on the PS Store, which to me makes no sense given they are trying to sell on a Sony system and using a Sony store? Surely both Sony and the developers would want to encourage the use of the PS Store, which the current structure, when given the option, does not!
Maybe I'm missing something but I imagine the developers set a recommended price? Why this should be different for Play, Game, Amazon or Sony I don't know?
Furthermore I would have thought, perhaps naively, that an online setup would be cheaper due to the lack of material goods and the associated costs. Beyond the servers to run the PS Store, which are there for the PS3 as well, what additional costs are there to Sony?

I asked the same question before I bought my 3rd PSP (My 1st was given to me and then my brother as he bought it and wasn't a fan of handhelds, so he took it back to sell. My 2nd I bought 6 months after that sale and got rid of it when everyone was positive that it was dead. Sony then said 5 more years so I jumped back on board and boy have I missed it) and in the end... Cost won.
I've been able to buy so many games for £5 that'd cost £15 to download and some games like Prinny I got for £7 brand new and they want £32 to download it. In the space of 2 weeks I've built up a library of over 25 games purely because I've been picking up UMD's for so little prices. Not to mention that the go is then £80-£100 more exspensive as well.
At the end of the day, the UMD PSP's seem to be the way to go. They can do everything the Go's can bar one or two little things like being able to VC save (I have a Wii and the old games allow what the Go allows as well, hence why I call it a VC save) which incase you don't know, it allows you to save one game in a state of stasis almost and therefore you can do other things even if you haven't hit a save point and if I've read correctly, they also have a bigger screen.
I must admit though, I mustn't be the target market for portables. I mainly play them in the house but when I do go out I will take it with. Which is why the one argument I don't get is the portabillity of the Go. I mean seriously, just how many have had problems taking a PSP around?
I used to have the 1000, the big boy and I'll be honest, since getting a 3000, I'm not noticing any difference at all in portabillity.
I haven't once said to myself "*****, this is just so much easier to take around" so honestly, just what type of people need a machine so small it's unblievable? Rock Climbers? Arctic explorers? Nudists?

Heres my take after owning every single psp version.
For me the PSP Go is the best version so far.
The deal i got and most early adopters:
Package Price: £230
PSP Go (16gb super fast read and write Built in Memory)
16gb sony M2 Card
Official PSP Go Case
5 included full retail games ( 3 from rewards scheme via old psp i got resistance, syphon filter logans shadow and ratchet and clank, Gran Turismo was a free download and Assassins Creed was my holiday reward game download)
When you take in the factor of getting a new retail psp 3000 with the same games and a 32 gb mem stick duo it actually makes the psp 3000 more expensive!!
Exclusive features only available on the PSP Go:
Bluetooth internet tethering support ( My Mobile has an unlimited data/internet tarrif so i can game online anywhere in the world with my psp go ie motorstorm online withou having to try and find a wireless hotspot that does not require a username and password, basically there arent any hotspots that support that so your pretty stuffed with the old psp models)!!
Bluetooth Dualshock 3 support. I dock my pspgo with the official dock and component cables to my bedroom LCD TV, i then can game on my tv wire free with the dualshock 3 and use all my pspgo games. I also use remote play to stream movies/vidzone/bbc iplayer and playtv to my bedroom tv this way as my ps3 is in my living room and a ps3 in my gym.
Bluetooth stereo Headset Support/ official ps3 headset support for music and games like socom.
Pocketable as in will fit in your trouser pocket and you can forget about it/not know its there, you cant do this with the older models unless you put it in you jacket pocket.
Best quality screen, no screen ghosting or tearing on the psp go.
Some games actually are released cheper on the psn for example little big planet and ghostbusters and you do get special deals every so often.
Pause game feature: i use this a hell of a lot this can be done on a hacked fat/slim psp but not on official firmware fat/slims.
Minor features: Clock and calender, yer i know nothing major!!
My dislikes:
Price right now is a tiny bit steep seeing as you dont get gran turismo free anymore.
Ridge racers 2 is not on the psn yet other than that the majority of games worth owning are already on the psn, all this talk of only 10% of all psp games are on the UK psn is pure garbage, now there are about 700 games available to uk psp fat/slim owners including psp/ps1/minis downloadable games off the psn. There are as of today 292 games including psp/ps1/minis games available for the UK psp go psn account users thats a funny 10% its more like just over 40% of all psp games are available to psp go users and that gap is closing each week!! Thats over 40% of all psp games are available to psp go owners and thats all in the space of 3 months!!
I have 50 quality games on my psp go and still have the room for 8gb music, 2gb of movies and 500 meg of photos. Al that without having to worry about swapping umds/memory cards or worry about losing memory cards/umds when on the go.
The best thing for me is that i can buy and download games/movies/comics wherever i am in the world!!
as to the above poster you try taking you psp slim with you with the umd games you wanna play on a hot summers day when you wanna just wear trouser/shorts and t-shirt then answer your last question, or even think of those that use their psp gos as there primary mp3 music player for jogging/ gym and then go jogging and training in the gym with your fat/slim psp!!
so to the OP.. yes it is worth getting the psp go!

@DEMON212
I can completely understand what you're saying about the size of the older PSPs, they aren't that big.
As a previous owner of the PSP 1000 though there were just too many occasions when I didn't take it with me as the PSP itself won't fit in a pocket, the Go in it's case fits easily.
The biggest difference though is that for the 1000 i had a even larger case as it also held UMDs and a spare battery. None of this is needed with the Go.
If you're happy, or at leasy not bothered by the size of the 1000 or 3000 it's difficult to justify the upgrade really. I wasn't getting value from the 1000 but am already using the Go far more, so for me it was worth the upgrade.

My biggest problem with the PSP 3000 is the length of the f**king charger lead. It's ridiculous. I think it's just about a metre long. It's annoying the crap out of me. Rant over ![]()

I for one love the psp, i have a slim and lite one the now, I really want to upgrade to a psp go however the cost for one puts me off and like pretty much everyone else, pretty hacked off that we all have these umd's that can only be used with an old psp system, so we all need to start our collections again.
I appreciate that at the moment you can get 4 games free, but we've either played them or they are that old we don't want them, personally i'm more interested in the newer ones GTpsp,Creed 2. The other thing is that you cant trade in your psp to upgrade as you need this to claim your free games. I have also been checking out the costs of umd's and the games on the network, surely if sony want us to upgrade they could make the games cheaper than the shops, gta chinatown wars is only £14.99 in shops and £23.99 on the store, so we're paying more for a console, we cant trade in just yet and start our collection from scratch and dont even get me started on the blu ray digital copies that are incompatabile with psp!! As i said i really want a go but all the above is bothering me, should just get a dsi.
